Title: UMA and Juju rock IRMSummit 2014 – Phoenix, Arizona (1)
1UMA and Juju rock IRMSummit 2014 Phoenix,
Arizona
- The schedule featured many great talks, and there
was a significant presence of sponsors. Certainly
not meant to be a comprehensive summary, but
below were some highlights and some snapshots! -
- I was really surprised to see how much excitement
there was about UMA. At one pointwhen Eve was
presented with the EIC award that Joni Brennan
brought from Germanythe entire conference broke
out into spontaneous ooo-ma, ooo-ma chant, which
is more exuberance than Ive ever witnessed for
any standard or API. During the day, Eves
presentation on UMA positioned the standard as
the answer for Web Access Management 2.0. She
also made the case that best practices are needed
for the design of scope-based access management
and pointed out that multi-party federations
could publish standards for UMA scopes, as they
do for user attributes in IDP saml. -
- The other technology to get uproarious applause
from the crowd was Juju. Stein Myrseth from Forge
rock gave an excellent real-time demo of Juju. By
dragging Juju charms onto the canvas, and letting
Juju do its deployment magic, Stein probably
broke all speed records for deployment of OpenDJ,
Open AM and protecting a web access management
tools application. To find out more about the
Juju Application Security Framework, see the
overview work-in-progress. -
2 The FIDO standard was another hot topic. One
interesting thing I learned is that even if you
become part of the FIDO Alliance, you are not
allowed to implement the proposed standard until
the release of the implementers draft, which is
not expected until late this year. The slide
below presents a very high level overview of
FIDO After much pontification on why identity
relationship management (IRM) is actually a
good name for the conference, Ian Glazer from
Sales Force gave an interesting talk on the Laws
of Relationships The Arizona Biltmore is a
beautiful resort, built in the 1920's, with
design contributions by Frank Lloyd Wright. I
dont know if the location will be the same next
year, but I would look forward to returning
there. And where ever the location, IRMSummit is
on my list of MUST-ATTEND conferences in
2015. Article resource-http//thegluuserver.tum
