The Relation between Foot Pain and Running
3
  • Do you enjoy running and you wish to run
regularly? Well, running is definitely healthy
and recommended by specialists as a health
maintaining method. But it can also cause pains,
especially in athletes who run on a regular basis.

4
  • For persons who have hip pain running can be a
cause. Although the main causes of hip pain are
muscle strain, arthritis, bursitis and nerve
irritation, direct impacts and overuse syndromes
can also be met amongst the causes, especially at
athletes. They should pay big attention to hip
pains in order to avoid complications that might
appear if the pain is not controlled.

Usually at athletes, the hip pain which appears
in the front of the hip and inner thigh is caused
by an adductor muscle pull or strain. This type
of pain usually occurs when the adductor muscles
are stressed beyond limits. But in order to make
sure you do not develop more serious problems, it
is always recommended to see a doctor, especially
if the pain persists.
7
  • Another very common pain caused by running is the
knee pain. Very common amongst runners and
athletes, the knee pain from running can have the
    following symptoms
  1. Pain behind or around the kneecap
  2. Grinding or popping sensations in the knee
  3. Swelling
  4. Pain during the bending of the knee, such as when
walking, running, kneeling, sitting or squatting
  5. Much worse pain when walking downstairs or
    downhill

8
Knee pain diagnosis can be done by a doctor, by
having a thorough physical exam, which can also
include X-rays, Computed Tomography scans and
Magnetic Resonance Imaging. As long as the knee
pain is diagnosed, there can be followed certain
treatments that can heal the knee. If you have
knee pain, you can try to do the following
treatments for it to speed up the process of
healing
9
  1. Rest the knee as much as possible in order to
avoid putting weight on the knee
  2. Put ice on your knee and keep it there for about
20-30 minutes in order to reduce pain and
    swelling
  3. Compress your knee to give it extra support. For
this, you can use elastic bandage, sleeves or
    straps
  4. Elevate your knee on a pillow each time you sit
    or lie down
  5. Practice stretching and strengthening exercises,
    especially before running
  6. Take anti-inflammatory painkillers, but only
    under medical prescription

10
Stretching and strengthening is also recommended
before running, as it prepares your body and
especially your feet for the effort that they
will face during running.
  • Although pain is usually caused by running, you
can still run safely as long as you take care and
follow some indications. It is always important
to wear the appropriate shoes when running, in
    order to avoid certain issues.

11
  • You can always consult your doctor if the pain
persists or becomes more powerful. This way, you
can get the correct diagnosis of your pain and
you avoid future complications in your feets
health, as well as your overall health.
