What?

• Otitis media is a condition of severe
  inflammation of middle ear
• Otitis media may either be acute or chronic in
  nature
• If the symptoms persist only for short time and
  go away as fast as the onset then it is acute
  otitis media. On the other hand, chronic otitis
  media is characterised by prolonged inflammation
  of middle region of ear at least for a month

Manage

• Otitis media in children is very common and
  difficult to manage
• 75 of children in US suffer otitis media at
  least once by the time they turn 3 years of age
• Children may turn very aggressive and fussy.
  Irritability, sleep problems are a few observed
  signs. It is the great way of strep throat being
  horrible.

Prevent?

• The best way to prevent any microbial infections
  is prophylactic measure
• For breast-fed children, it is good for the
  mother to completely abstain tobacco spoke
  exposure
• In case of adults, another prophylactic measure
  may be tried. Xylitol based lozenges or gums are
  reported to be effective in preventing acute
  otitis media
