Registration Step by Stepfor Current 10th-11th
Graders
  • Students receive Course Catalog and Four Year
    Plan in Social Studies class.
  • Counselors present information and answer
    questions late January and early February.
  • Students revise Four Year Plan to meet needs.
  • In mid-February students meet with counselor
    again in computer lab to finalize and input
    choices .

Registration Step by Stepfor Current 9th Graders
  • Students completed four year plans in ACE class
    in the Fall.
  • Students went over four year plans with parents
    and entered their choices for next year in the
    computer during their Student-Led Conference in
    January.
  • Students should see their counselor for any
    changes to their choices.

Registration Step by Stepfor Current 8th Graders
  • 8th grade counselors or high school counselors
    will present basic information to students along
    with a course catalog and choice sheet. (January
    15-18)
  • Parents should work with student to complete
    choice sheet.
  • Parents retain a copy of the choice sheet
    student returns a copy to Middle School.
  • CPHS counselors meet with Middle School students
    in computer lab to finalize and input choices the
    last week in January.

How Credits Work
  • 26 credits required for graduation
  • Each semester stands alone
  • 4 credits possible each semester
  • 3.5 credits for athletics, band, drill team
  • 32 total credits possible
  • 28 total possible for athletics and band
  • 29 total possible for Celebrities Drill Team

  • To be promoted to the next grade, students must
    have
  • 5 Credits to be a Sophomore
  • 11 Credits to be a Junior
  • 18 Credits to be a Senior

  • The State of Texas offers 2,000 scholarship to
    state colleges or universities if student
    graduates in 36 calendar months.

  • The IB program is a demanding,

    examinations accepted at universities in more

Definition of Pre-AP Course
  • A high school level class which uses
    instructional strategies designed to prepare
    students for Advanced Placement and International
    Baccalaureate classes.
  • Offered in grades 9-12

Definition of an ADVANCED PLACEMENT Course
  • A college-level course, harder than pre-AP
  • Developed and supported by the College Board
  • Course content pre-determined to meet college
    standards
  • Offered in grades 10-12
  • Students are highly encouraged to take Advanced
    Placement exam for potential college credit

Advantages of Pre-AP/AP Courses
  • Study challenging material in greater depth, in
    classes with other motivated students
  • Prepare for the demands of college work
  • Potential to earn college credit (AP courses

Possible Disadvantages of Pre-AP/AP
Courses
  • Course content is more difficult and will require
    more preparation time.
  • Student may make a lower grade than he or she is
    used to.
  • There is danger of overloading with students
    other commitments.

Testing
  • PSATCPHS gives to all 10th and 11th graders
    during school day in October.
  • SAT and ACT assessmentsJuniors should take both
    in spring of Junior year. Most students re-take
    in fall of Senior year.
  • College Readiness tests (THEA, ASSET, COMPASS,
    etc.) must be taken or exempted before enrolling
    in college-level classes in Texas public colleges
    and universities.
