2
Why cliques?
  • its something that everyone can relate,
    understand and do something about.
  • Its an experiment
  • How it relates to the theme.

3
What is a clique?
  • Dictionary definition an unofficial group with
shared interest that spend time together and
    exclude others.
  • Cliques only allow members to be friends with
other members of the clique or people who the
    clique decided are cool
  • Proof?

4
Why cliques evolve
  • Cliques evolve because it gives people a place
where they feel safe, with a clear ideal of
    acceptable behavior.
  • In a recent nationwide survey of teenage girls,
96.3 percent of the respondents claimed that
    cliques existed in their schools

5
Why cliques evolve
  • To ease there way through large peer groups
  • To categorize there peers
  • To establish an identity
  • To gain a since of belonging

6
How cliques evolve
  • Cliques start at a very young age.
  • According to scholastics.com, cliques start
forming in the fourth and 5th grade, with there
power peaking in middle school, but people I
interviewed say they had cliques as young as
    kindergarten.

7
How cliques evolve
  • Experts say human beings hate the feeling of
being different, so thats why people with the
same ethnicity, gender, intellectual ability, or
family background tend to stick together.
  • Groups can turn mean because defining other
people as different helps there own group
    cohere.

8
Are cliques bad?
  • Excludes others
  • Taunting-bulling
  • Fighting
  • Causes depression and can lead to murder or
    suicide.

9
!Statistics!
  • 71 of teachers believe they always intervene
when someone is bulling someone. only 25 of
    students agree
  • 10 of students who drop out of school do so
    because of bulling.
  • Suicide 11th leading cause of death in America,
third leading cause of death in teens in America.
