Preamble
  • Let us fear Allah by doing everything which He
enjoins upon us and refraining from everything
    which He forbids us.
  • May we be amongst the pious.

5
  • Allah says in the Quran 617-18
  • If Allah touch thee with affliction, none can
remove it but He if He touch thee with
happiness, He hath power over all things. He is
the irresistible, (watching) from above over His
worshippers and He is the Wise, acquainted with
    all things.

6
  • Therefore we must not place our trust or be
    dependent on anything except Allah.
  • We should not be dependent on a cause-and-effect
phenomenon which is forbidden by the rule of
Islam (Sharia) such as witchcraft, sorcery and
    superstitions.
  • The reason is that these can lead to annihilation
of the faith and abrogation of the Shahadah.

7
  • Witchcraft (Sihr) can be defined as an act or
phenomenon, which is beyond the normal
(paranormal), committed by man in secrecy and
which involves the unseen beings and can result
in negative things in other people.
  • Examples are magic spell, hypnotising, charms, and
    the magically-flying bullet.

  • Superstition is any belief, teaching,
interpretation or opinion which are nonsensical
    and without rational basis.
  • Examples
  • Believing in astrological forecasting,
  • Supplication to and asking for help from dead
    persons.
  • All these amount to acts of shirk (associating
Allah with His creations) and are greatly
    condemned by Allah.
  • Indeed all acts of shirk, idolatry, and
worshipping of anything besides Allah, since time
    immemorial, result in various superstitious,
    nonsensical and false beliefs.

9
  • All these beliefs and acts do damage to the
Aqeeda (faith) and further plunge the
practitioners into ignominy and incur the Wrath
    of Allah.
  • The punishment for these will surely be the Hell
    Fire.

10
  • This latter point is stressed by Allah in the
    Quran 572
  • Whoever joins other gods with Allah, Allah will
forbid him the Garden, and the Fire will be his
abode. There will for the wrong-doers be no one
    to help.

11
  • The acts of witchcraft and superstitions have a
major impact on ones ability to think
    rationally.
  • They shackle the mind and shun the truth.
  • The mind becomes static, cannot think properly,
repulse the truth, and resist good counsel.
  • Falsehood is then regarded as the truth.
  • Where then is the special position of Man when
the mind ceases to guide him towards the truth?
  • When he cannot distinguish between truth and
    falsehood?

12
  • Islam teaches its followers to use the mind
    accordingly.
  • The mind is created by Allah to enable Man to
ponder, scrutinise, and deliberate on Allahs
    creations in the Universe.

13
  • Allah says in the Quran 3190
  • Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the
earth, and the alternation of Night and Day,
there are indeed Signs for men of understanding.

14
  • Such deliberations will result in sound
resolutions which enable Man to become aware that
the one who created, governs and manages the
Universe is Allah and only Him.
  • Unfortunately, it is Man who limits the
capability of the mind by practising witchcraft
    and sorcery.

15
  • Witchcraft results in things which look
impressive and baffling but they are not real.
  • Witchcraft results in resolutions which damage
the Aqeeda, destroys the truth held heretofore,
shuns conviction to Allah, and tries to deny His
    Absolute Power.
  • This is indeed the worst annihilation and
    ignominy which can befall Mankind.

16
  • In an Hadith recorded by imam Bukhari dan Muslim,
    from Abu Hurairah
  • The Messenger of God (PBUH) said

17
  • In an Hadith recorded by imam Bukhari dan Muslim,
    from Abu Hurairah
  • The Messenger of God (PBUH) said Avoid the
    seven destructive things.People asked What
are they, O Messenger of God?
  • The Prophet said
  • Idolatry sorcery killing a person declared
inviolable by God, except for a just reason
profiteering consuming the property of an
orphan turning back when it is time to advance
and defaming chaste believing women who happen
    to be careless.

18
Conclusions
  • Witchcraft is forbidden and can lead to Shirk and
is damaging to the Faith (Aqeeda).
  • Whoever is involved in witchcraft should repent
and return to the way of Allah.
  • Witchcraft put shackles on the human mind so that
    one cannot think rationally.
  • Islam values knowledge and rational thinking.

19
Conclusions
  • Witchcraft leads to division and enmity within
the society whereas Islam calls for unity and
    harmony.
  • Witchcraft hinders man from working hard and
putting in effort whereas Islam calls man to work
and strive in earnest to achieve success.

20
Conclusions
  • For these reasons, let us refrain from engaging
in these acts of superstition which lead to
associating Allah with His own creations (Shirk)
and incur His Wrath upon our entire life.
  • We must worship Allah in entirety so that we may
achieve success, happiness and security in this
    world and in the Hereafter.

21
  • After all, this is what we always recite in our
opening supplication (dua iftitah) in our salah.
