Dear Educators, On the following slides you
will see my version of Monthly Journal Calendar
writing activities. Since this file is in
PowerPoint (saved in 2003 PowerPoint), you can
change or type in your own story starters. You
may also use my ideas (and the ideas of others!)
The stars are the MUST DO writing assignments
for my students. The calendars are blank so that
I will only need to print this file out once.
The students learn the workings of a calendar
each month during a teacher directed lesson.
Students also write the days of the week each
month to practice their spelling. The word
bank is flexible. Keep or change the words as
you see fit. There are plenty of extra lines for
students to create their own story or essay. Keep
or change my Character Word of the Month. My
inspiration to do a monthly journal came from the
Busy Teachers Café. I modified the format to
fit my style of teaching. I didnt want a
calendar that expired each year. Each
month, I pass out the new calendar. This
calendar stays in the students writing folder.
Be creative. Use this file and make it work
for your class!
