2
What is the Water Cycle?
  • The Water Cycle describes the existence and
movement of water on, in, and above the Earth.

3
The Stages of the Water Cycle
  • The first stage is Precipitation. This occurs
when so much water has collected that the air
cannot hold it anymore.  The clouds get heavy and
water falls back to the earth in the form of
    rain, hail, sleet or snow.
  • The second stage is Collection. When water falls
back to earth as precipitation, it may fall back
in the oceans, lakes or rivers or it may end up
    on land.
  • The third stage is Evaporation. Evaporation is
when the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or
the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam. The
water vapor or steam leaves the river, lake or
ocean and goes into the air.
  • The fourth stage is Condensation. Water vapor in
the air gets cold and changes back into liquid,
forming clouds. This is called condensation.

4
Is This a Stage in the Water Cycle?
  • Precipitation
  • Answer Yes, Precipitation is a stage in the
water cycle. Snow is one form of precipitation.

5
Is This a Stage in the Water Cycle?
  • Sunshine
  • Answer No, sunshine is not a stage but it does
    cause water to evaporate!

6
Is this a Stage in the Water Cycle?
  • Spring
  • Answer No, spring is not a stage in the water
cycle but it is one of our seasons!

Is This a Stage in the Water Cycle?
  • Condensation
  • Answer Yes, condensation is a stage. This is
    when a cloud forms.
