Must Be Established at the Institutional Level
And at the Program Level

Program Outcomes

• Are used to determine whether the programs
  purpose is being achieved.
• Outcomes information provides concrete,
  meaningful, and useful evidence of achievement of
  the programs purpose.
• Outcomes also provide information to direct
  improvement. Thus, a programs instructional
  outcomes serve as the foundation for assessment
  planning.

Program Mission Statement

• A mission statement is a brief description of a
  programs fundamental purpose.
• It answers the question, Why do we exist?
• There should be a linkage between the mission of
  the college and that of the program.
• Likewise, their should be a connection between a
  programs mission and its outcomes
• A mission statement is a description of the
  programs goals.

Writing Program Outcomes

• What should your students be able to demonstrate?
• Start small-with three to five outcomes.
• Keep them measurable.
• Outcomes are faculty written and updated.
• Must support at least one institutional outcome.

Linkage to Institutional Outcomes

• Identification of key course outcomes. (found in
  course syllabi)
• Identify supported program outcome of reach
  course outcome.
• Establish uniform links from course outcomes to
  program outcomes. (Especially in cases of
  multiple instructors.)
