3VÃ…V Objectives
Source
- Implement P/C Product model and demonstrate
the use of it - Find/develop tools that make it possible to
bring data in/out to/from the P/C database - Verify the P/C Product model
Map andtransform
P/C Target
4VÃ…V strategy
- Work together to find common industry solutions
- Ask engineering marked to join
- Associate VÃ…V and POSC/Caesar organizations.
Connect the project closed to Ã…sgard LCI - Start implementing one place (Ã…sgard)
- Use existing architecture standards where
ever possible

Data Management solution
- IBM and Intergraph to develop and deliver an
integrated data - management solution that
- demonstrates the use of data mapping tools to
extract and transform data from legacy data
stores (Statoil STID database - technical
information ) to a POSC/Caesar data store - use the Intergraph AIM product suite to access
and browse the data extracted from the
legacy data stores to demonstrate the practical
use of the POSC/Caesar product model - verifies the use of the POSC/Caesar product
model and feedback practical experiences to
the POSC/Caesar project team Shall be
in place (delivered and tested) by 20th August
1997
6Two-phased Approach
- Planning and Design
- to design the integrated solution
- to select the data exchange and mapping
tools to be completed by 14th May 1997 - System development, integration and testing
- to integrate and test the data exchange and
mapping tools - to develop, configure and test the Intergraph
AIM product suite with the POSC/Caesar
product model for Snapshot C/D - to verify the POSC/Caesar product model
to be completed by 20th August 1997

9What does data migration means ?
- identification of Structures and Semantics of
the Source Data Structures - e.g. the
database schema, in which the data are stored
Semantics - e.g. the user given meaning
traditionally many meanings are implied,
and not explicit in keywords and
relationships within the structure - identification of Structures and Semantics of
the Target Data in P/C Structure - e.g. an
EXPRESS model, the POSC/Caesar data model -
the model is a meta model and has very little end
user semantics - any relationship between
two things is represented as an association
which is additionally generated - any user
data is in ONE general storage place
(Info_Content) Semantics - the semantics is
explicit by generation of association
entities - the interpretation is in data from
the P/C Reference Data Library
10MAPPING
11What goes beyond a traditional mapping task
- Hide the information model from the user and
assist the user by use of interpretation
templates - guide the engineer (domain expert) to
interactively define the interpretation of
definitions of source data stores into a
representation of P/C - use classifying information from the P/C
Reference Data Library for the declaration of
translation rules - most attributes maps are default assignment
statements, to be hidden from the user - develop and maintain mapping algorithms
- With the proposed Mapping Tool, the need for a
P/C model expert - is limited and the work can mostly be done by
domain expert, who understands the basics of the
P/C model.

16Verification
- implementation of the Product Model - data
store - mapping tools - import/export from/to legacy systems
- necessary changes to the Prod. Mod.
- access P/C data and bring meaningful data to
applications - acceptable performance
- understanding - need for changes/add ons/
training - can all data type be registered ?
- easy to implement a new version of P/C ?
17Verification
- IBM
- Good points about the POSC/Caesar Product Model
- enables organizations to manage the change
history at a very fine level of detail - the reference data library is an excellent idea
which should ensure a long life for the data
model - the Product Model is very flexible and generic
- it meets a broad range of requirement for the
asset life cycle for the oil and gas industry
