4Crafting the Lesson (Me) (We)

the opinion.
Adopting a Pet from the Pound Owning a pet from
the pound or Animal Rescue League has many
advantages. First of all, a child feels good
about saving a dumped or injured animal and
giving it a whole new life. Besides, if the
animals from the pound arent adopted right away,
they might be put to sleep. Having a pet also
means lots of responsibilities. A child has to
feed, clean up after, brush, and exercise the
pet. Another great benefit of having a pet from
the pound is the price of these cute and cuddly
animals. Pets from the pound cost only a few
dollars while pets at a fancy pet store can cost
hundreds of dollars. Once you adopt a pet from
the Animal Rescue League, it will quickly become
a part of your family. If you are thinking of
adopting a pet, you might consider choosing a dog
or a cat. Dogs and cats can bring lots of happy
times to a family, and they can be excellent
companions for a person who lives alone or
someone who has lost a loved one. Dogs are also a
wonderful source of safety. Cats are funny, and
they may help to calm people down when they are
sad or mad. Please consider adopting an animal.
If you remember all of the benefits of adopting a
pet from the pound, you might find the bird,
mouse, hamster, dog, or cat of your choice.

6Composing Meaning (Two)
With a partner, write down each part of the essay
that supports the opinion.
Fast Food Fast food is easy to get when we
are in a rush. However, it is a bad idea to eat
it too much or too often. When you eat a Big Mac
and fries, you get more than just a two dollar
deal. First, in the hamburger you got 570
calories, with almost half of them coming from
fat. Ten grams of this fat is saturated, the kind
which is harmful to our heart. The Canadian Food
Guide recommends that we "choose lower-fat foods
more often." Now, remember that you may also get
a small fries! Unfortunately, there are another
210 calories in the fries, with 10 more grams of
fat. Im sure you bought a drink as well, which
adds another 150 calories in a small size cup.
Now, imagine you ate this dinner more than once a
week! A two dollar meal contains a lot of fat.
So, although it is very cheap to buy fast food,
it is quite alarming to see just how much fat we
are eating. I think Ill go and eat an apple,
instead!
