2The Revision Process
- 2007-2008 School Year
- The elementary report card revision process began
with an extensive review of report cards from
other states and Maryland counties. - Over 125 parents, teachers, administrators, and
curriculum and instruction personnel provided
input on content and format for the new report
card.
3The Pilot Year
- 2008-2009 School Year
- New report cards were piloted in 20 elementary
schools. - Parent, teacher, and principal survey results
were very positive.

- 2009-2010 School Year

- All BCPS elementary schools will use the new
elementary report cards.
5What Should I Expect?
- The Report Card
- There is a distinct report card for each grade
level Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3. - The skills for each grade level are specific and
reflect what your child is learning during daily
instruction.

- Achievement Codes in Grades 1 and 2
CD Consistently Demonstrating
The student acquires and applies the concept
or skill consistently. P
Progressing The student acquires and applies
the concept or skill frequently and
needs additional teacher support at times. N
Needs Development The student acquires
and applies the concept or skill rarely
or does so with much teacher support. Additional
practice is needed. NA Not Applicable
Achievement codes are used to report on
expectations under each subject in Grades 1 and
2. Students also receive an effort score for
each subject.
7What Should I Expect?
Achievement Grades and Expectation Codes for
Grades 3, 4, and 5
Students receive achievement grades (A, B, C, D,
or E) for each subject and an expectation score
for subcategories under each subject.
8What Should I Expect?
- Special Area Subjects
- Special area subjects include library media, art,
music, and physical education. - Students in Grades 1 and 2 receive an effort
grade for special area subjects every quarter. - In Grades 3, 4, and 5, students receive an effort
grade every quarter and a letter grade at the end
of Quarters 2 and 4.
9What Should I Expect?
Programs and Services and Additional Reports
- If your child is receiving modified,
supplemental, or enrichment programs or services,
a notation is made on the report card on page 3. - If additional reports are being sent home with
the report card, they will be indicated on page 3.
