Protein Diet
  • Protein can satisfy hunger resulting you eating
    less calories throughout the day
  • Increasing protein allows us to keep insulin
    levels low, preventing lulls through the day.
  • Consists of eating fish, poultry, mild cheese

  • Assist in weight loss. Protein kills your
    appetite and reduces eating.
  • Can increase muscular strength and endurance.
  • Body spends a lot of energy digesting protein.
  • Negatives
  • Too much protein can make your bones slightly
    more brittle.
  • Most average diets give you enough protein.
    Adults only need 50-70 grams per day.
  • Your body already produces 11 of the 20 amino
    acids in protein. You can get the rest in the
    average diet.

Low Carbohydrate Diet
  • Also known as the Atkins Diet
  • Consists of cutting out carbs from your diet and
    focuses on vegetables, lean meat, fish, eggs, and
    healthy oils.
  • Has fast results, as long as you stay on it.

  • Positives
  • Rapid weight loss
  • Reduces mood swings. Eating carbs can cause mood
    swings. When you have them your happy, when you
    are hungry, you crash.
  • Eat healthier and eat less processed foods.
  • Negatives
  • As soon as you get off the diet, you start
    gaining the weight back. Your body reacts to
    the sugar and carbs more than it did before.
  • Lack of food choices.
  • A lot of lost weight is water weight

Water/Liquid
  • Consists of drinking liquids
  • Cold water makes body have to heat the water to
    body temperature, which burns calories.
  • In year, you can lose 5 pounds by just drinking
    lots of cold water and making no other change.
  • Water fills your stomach, making you feel full.
  • Flushes weight producing foods like sugar and
    carbs from body

  • If you drink a pint of 50 degree water, you will
    burn 12.25 calories to get that water to body
    temperature.
  • There is also a carry factor. A pint weighs
    roughly a pound. That is one more pound your
    body must carry, essentially burning more
    calories.

Negatives of Water Diet
  • Large amounts of water washes water soluble
    nutrients from the body.
  • The kidneys have to work harder to remove the
    excess water from the body.
  • When drinking a lot of water you must take
    vitamins, and avoid salt products.

  • Also known as the Ketogenic Diet.
  • Meals are high in fat, low in carbs and protein.
  • For specific training and health related issues

  • Burning fat creates ketones which have shown to
    prevent seizures in epileptic patients
  • Negatives
  • Dehydration.
  • Vomiting.
  • High cholesterol level.

  • Behavior changes.
  • Slower growth rates in children

  • Consists of eating fruits and vegetables while
    keeping sweets and fatty foods to minimum
  • Decreases chance of obesity, heart disease, and
    cancer

  • Shortage of Essential Vitamins/Nutrients

  • vegetables -legumes -breads and grains
  • fruits -nuts, seeds
  • cereals/pasta
  • regular use of olive oil
  • Eating what is freshest and available locally
  • Quality in food, not quantity
  • Fresh and whole-not processed or refined
  • Primarily plant based
  • Relish experience of eating-savor every bite!
  • Regular physical activity at level to promote
    healthy weight, fitness and well-being
