- Honor School of Excellence with 91.3 of students
at or above grade level and met Adequate Yearly
Progress (AYP) - A Highly qualified staff maintains a caring and
student-centered facility. - Intervention programs for at risk students such
as Book Buddies and one-on-one tutoring are
available.
3White Plains Elementary School
- Strong community relations through volunteer
programs and community events such as Terrific
Tuesdays are ongoing. - Supplemental programs are provided and include a
full-time writing coordinator, Accelerated
Reader, Accelerated Math, and the use of staff as
tutors during available time slots.

- School built in 1988
- Current enrollment 375
5White Plains Elementary School
- Mobile Units
- Force students to enter and exit main building
several times during each school day - Internet access is not reliable.
- Even though covered walkways are available,
problems arise during inclement weather.
6White Plains Elementary School
- Carpet throughout the school is t he original
carpet installed when the school was built 16
years ago. - Neither playground area (K-1 or 2-5) is
wheelchair accessible. - Storage areas for materials such as handicap
physical education equipment are limited.
7White Plains Elementary School
- The roof leaks in many places throughout the
school. - In-house broadcasting system is not wired
correctly resulting in - in-house broadcasts for student recognition and
announcements impossible.
8Gentry Middle School
- Honor School of Excellence with 90.8 of students
at or above grade level in reading and math - Met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
- School of Distinction 1997-2003
9Gentry Middle School
- Teachers and teaching assistants are highly
qualified Six teachers have their National Board
Certification. - NC Physical Education Demonstration site
- Serves a very supportive community with over
4,000 volunteer hours donated to the school
during the 2003-2004 school year.

- In the past five years, the school has met over
95 of all School Improvement Goals.

- School was built for 598 students in 1976.
- Current enrollment 475
12Gentry Middle School
- Because of the quality facility, students and
staff at Meadowview Middle School are afforded
the following benefits - Adequate space for small group pull-outs if
needed for tutoring and conferencing. - Media storage and teacher planning rooms for
organization of materials and resources are
available to enhance instruction.

- The cafeteria and media center provide adequate
space for classes as needed. - An air-conditioned gymnasium provides optimum
space for students to benefit from a quality
health and wellness program.

- Maintenance concerns include the following
- Roofs of the covered walkways need replacing.
- The intercom, bell, clock, and fire systems are
28 years old and require much maintenance to keep
them working properly.
15North Surry High School
- School of Progress with 79.8 of students at or

- Students, Parents, and Teachers safety rating
90 - Highly qualified teachers and teaching assistants

- NSHS built in 1959 with an additional science
wing in 2000 -
- Capacity of 855
- Current student enrollment 1,083

- Cafeteria 4 lunch periods beginning at 1110
a.m. and ending at 105 p.m. Seating capacity
250/period with a maximum of 1,000 total) - Physical Education, technology, and health
occupations teachers share instructional space

- Guidance area (total size of 1 classroom) is
shared by 3 school counselors and 1 clerical
staff member - QZAB renovations (summer 2004) upgraded student
restroom facilities and will provide new windows
and a new roof for the field house.
