Title: Schedule and Course Catalog

1
Schedule and Course Catalog
PCCD Staff Development Flex Day Jan. 15, 2008
2
Key Process Changes
  • Multi-level Repeatable Courses
  • Selected Topic approval process
  • Pre-requisites
  • Class Schedules will show passing time
  • Searching the Class Schedule

3
Course Catalog
  • Course catalog refers to the Passport course
database, not the printed college catalog. It is
roughly the equivalent of /RFM in the legacy
    system.

4
Multi-Level/Repeatable Courses
  • In legacy, multi-Level courses like BUS 230DEF or
PE 8ABCD can mean 2 different things. In BUS
230, students progress from D to E to F based on
coursework completed. In PE 8, the level is
based on the number of times the student enrolls
in the class. The first time the student
completes the course is level A, levels B-D are
assigned for each repeat of the course. During
our review, we discovered inconsistencies and
lack of understanding of this process. There
    were also programming irregularities.
  • In PeopleSoft, courses were designated as either
separate courses (BUS 230D, 230E and 230F) or
repeatable (PE 8). Some disciplines elected to
rewrite the curriculum and new course numbers
were assigned (ENGL 259ABCD became ENGL 269A and
    269B.)

5
Selected Topic Approval Process
  • Recent changes to Title 5 require Board Approval
of all Stand Alone courses, including selected
    topics (48/248/348/848)
  • Old Process
  • Course approved by College curriculum committee,
entered into system (/RFM) by the college.
  • New Process (effective Fall 2007)
  • Course approved by College curriculum committee
and is included on CIPD agenda. Board approval
required prior to offering course. Course entered
into system by district office. All college
curriculum committees have gone through training
    and been certified.

6
PREREQUISITES
  • All prerequisites entered in the system will be
    enforced
  • Students will no longer be able to waive
prerequisites online. They must complete the
necessary process (same process as is currently
    used).
  • Prerequisites can still be overridden by
counselors and A R (same process as is
    currently used).

7
Passing Time Displayed in Schedules
  • Currently passing time (the time between classes)
is not displayed in our class schedules as
required by Title 5. Beginning with Summer 2008
schedule, the class start and end times will
    reflect a passing time.

8
Searching Class Schedule
  • Students will be able to search the schedule by
  • Subject
  • Specific Course
  • College
  • Instructor
  • Day and time of day
  • Key word in course title
