  • Fellows should take the exam individually,
    closed book, score and recorded (i.e. real
    exam situation) for best feedback on the fellows
    and program

ABOS Subspecialty Exam Update
  • 2007 Examination
  • 618 applicants / 613 accepted to sit / 587 took
    exam
  • 529 passed (90 pass rate)
  • 186 questions (min passing score 82.6)
  • 2008 Examination
  • 398 applicants / 397 accepted to sit / 356 took
    exam
  • 330 passed (93 pass rate)
  • 187 questions (min passing score 78.6)

  • You need your primary SSC to sit combined
    MOC/Sports sub exam
  • For primary SSC exam the grandfather period ends
    in 2011
  • Current sports practice profile CBT
  • Phasing out in 2011

  • SSC will follow MOC process

Subspecialty Certification Update
  • Tying SC Certification into MOC
  • Written pathway approved by ABOS(2008)
  • Those individuals who pass the Sports Medicine
    Subspecialty Certification Exam will be eligible
    to sit a combined pathway examination to satisfy
    Part III MOC requirements when the diplomate is
    eligible to apply for recertification of the
    primary orthopaedic certificate.
  • Primary and SSC Certificates will then have the
    same expiration date / time course

  • Sports Medicine Computer Based Exam
  • The current Sports CBT practice profile
    recertification examination will be phased out by
    2012
  • For those individuals who do not possess a
    Subspecialty Certificate in Sports Medicine and
    want to recertify their Primary Orthopaedic
    Certificate, there will be the following options
  • General Orthopaedic Computer-Based Examination
  • An oral examination based upon a 6 month case
    list of the Diplomate (Sports Medicine
    Examination Panel)
  • Oral Pathway for SSC/MOC will be created

  • Written exam taken July after graduation
  • To sit you need basic minimum requirements
    (Credentials Committee)

  • Oral exam based on practice (subspecialty)
  • Taken 2 years after successfully passing part I
