3A Job Search Strategy provides direction, focus,
and a guidepost for finding the right job
role/career and overall life satisfaction.
Job Search Strategy
- The job search strategy brings together your
purpose, values, talents, and interests and
supports them with tangible, practical goals. - It also provides the framework around which you
can construct your plan of attack. - Many of our goals will change during our lives
according to our age and the circumstances of our
lives. - Our plans must change in response to or
anticipation of this evolution. - A strategy provides the overall direction and the
proper context in which to make decisions and
adjust our plans. - Many job-seekers employ the hit or miss
approach to finding new work. - A passive approach, this involves responding to
ads and relying on employment agencies -- or just
those companies that come to campus. - This eliminates your personal power and
ultimately limits your choices you are at the
mercy of job boards, headhunters, announced
openings, etc. which constitute only about 20 of
all jobs. - Similarly, the broadcast approach, without
significant follow-up and persistence, simply
adds your resume to the proverbial pile. - A well-defined, structured, and aggressive
approach to job hunting puts the power back in
your hands and projects a positive image of
success. - Only you can limit the effectiveness of this
approach your persistence, creativity, and
effort determine the quality of the approach and
ultimately, your job choices.
4CDP1 encompasses each step in defining your job
search strategy.
