- We have had kindergartens for 30 years
- It has never been written into the statutes
- All Idaho districts provide it anyway
- Districts are accountable to meet K standards
(IRI, State Standards) - Has been used as motivation for overides
11Preschool Funded if Provided by Districts (ISSA,
IBCEE)
- Research is clear on the effectiveness of early
intervention - Rapidly changing family dynamics demands
adjustment - Many children arrive unready for kindergarten
- All efforts after that become remedial and
expensive - Other children held back while remediation takes
place
12Extended Instructional Time for Remedial Work

- After school, summers, weekends
- NCLB mandates remediation
- Some funding has been established

- More expensive than leveling the playing field in
