established academic post in a UK university or
comparable UK institution, nor may Fellows hold
such a post concurrently with the Early Career

support whereby the Leverhulme Trust will
contribute 50 of the Fellows total salary costs
(including National Insurance, superannuation and
London Allowance, where applicable) up to a
maximum of 22,000 per year of the Fellowship.
The balance is to be contributed by the host
institution. - Amount of Award
- Award holders will be paid at a point on the
national salary scale for academic staff, based
on the individuals age and experience. - In recognition of the prestige of these awards
and to enable the Fellows research, up to 5,000
p.a. will be available to each Fellow for
research expenses (but not for capital items of
equipment or books). - Please note the Trust cannot assist applicants in
finding a suitable host institution.
12The Leverhulme Trust
- Teaching commitments
- Whilst it is desirable for the Early Career
Fellow to gain some teaching experience, teaching
should average no more than 3 hours per teaching
week in term time. The Trust expects that the
subjects taught will relate to the main thrust of
the Fellows research interests and not simply to
the Departments needs. - The total time spent on teaching duties (i.e
preparation, teaching, examining, marking and
administration) should not exceed one day per
teaching week in term time. - Place of tenure
- The appointments will be tenable in any UK
university or institution of higher education in
the UK. - Duration
- These Fellowships are tenable for 24 months on a
full-time basis and are not renewable.
13The Leverhulme Trust
- Research Project Grants
- These awards form the great majority of grants
given by the Trust, and are made by a Principal
Applicant who wishes to pursue a project of high
quality and originality which is his or her own
vision. - They provide support for innovative and original
research projects in any discipline except
medicine. - The grant pays for the salaries of research
staff (usually post-doctoral researchers) engaged
on the project, and some modest research costs. - The choice of theme and design of the project
lies entirely with the Principal Applicant.
14The Leverhulme Trust
- Eligibility criteria
-
- The great majority of awards are made for
projects costing up to 250,000 over a duration
of two to three years. At least 75 of the
resources requested must be used to provide
funding for research staff (research assistants,
postgraduate students) who work specifically on
the project. - The tuition fees and maintenance costs of a PhD
studentship may be included provided they are set
at the base rate for Research Council awards for
UK students and must be directly related to the
project in hand. - Associated research costs up to a maximum of 25
of the total budget can be included. - Awards are not made to cover the salary costs of
the Principal Applicant, or those of the
co-applicants. - Eligible institutions are universities, other
institutions of higher and further education in
the UK, and registered charities in the UK.
15The Leverhulme Trust
- These awards differ from the Fellowships and
Studentships offered by the Trust, in that they
are submitted by the Principal Applicant via a
two-stage process Outline and Detailed. - There are no deadlines for Outline applications.

Outlines are - 1 December, 1 September and 21 March.
