1China, Democracy or not!
- This slide show will argue for and against the
argument that China is a democratic state.
2How is it Democratic?
- In Local Governments they hold elections so that
the villagers can vote for Local Representatives
3!HOWEVER! (This happens to be a magic word in

4It is non-Democratic because
- the candidates must be approved by the CCP
(Chinese Communist Party) before they can put
their self forward for election.
5A second way that it is democratic is
- they now have private media organisations
meaning they arent controlled by the CCP.

7Many internet sights have been blocked by the
CCP. Searches to do with Tiananmen square etc.
8Although there are many restrictions in China,
they are allowed to be religious.
9!HOWEVER! (This happens to be a magic word in

10There are several restrictions, surprise,
surprise! There are only 5 legal religions.
Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Hinduism.
But even these religions are targeted, because
they are seen as a threat to the government, e.g.
Tibet monk massacre that took place in March 08.
11Free Speech
- In the Chinese constitution it states that the
people have the right to free speech. The CCP
have allowed more people to speak out against
some of their policies etc. For example, there
have been several people complaining that China
is too polluted.

13things like internet chat- rooms are monitored
by the CCP and when the Tibetan monks stood up
against the government they were dealt with
brutally and severely.
