  • NCP has approximately 3500 students, including
    100 international exchange students annually.
  • The number of personnel at North Karelia
    Polytechnic is about 350.

  • The fields of study include a total of 21 degree
    programmes.
  • Studies at each degree programme consist of basic
    studies, specialised professional studies,
    optional studies, practical training and
    thesis/final paper.

  • North Karelia Polytechnic (NCP) operates in
    Joensuu, North Karelia that is the easternmost
    province of Finland.

    Joensuu. Others are situated in nearby towns at
    Kitee, Outokumpu, Nurmes and Lieksa, in the
    province of North Karelia

GENERAL AIMS the student
  • Understands the mission and significance of
    his/her profession in society, the social service
    system and client relations
  • Has profound multi-disciplinary knowledge and is
    able to apply it while examining practical
    problems
  • Comprehends and binds him/herself to independent
    intellectual, emotional and ethical growth
  • Is prepared to take various social duties in
    different social environments and functional
    situations
  • Adopts a searching and developing approach to
    work

SOCIAL PEDAGOGY
  • The goal to promote the individual's, family's
    or group's role in the society and their
    opportunity to meaningful life
  • Its purpose is activating the clients to help
    themselves in the long run rather than finding
    solutions to single problems
  • Graduation gives the students qualifications to
    work
  • In preventive and remedial work among children
    and young
  • In guidance, rehabilitation and care of different
    people
  • In planning, development and administrative work
    in both public and private sector

DANCE/MOVEMENT THERAPY

    movement therapy

VISUAL ART THERAPY
  • the student
  • enchances his/her skills in visual arts, finds
    his/her own way of expression and develops
    his/her skills in participating in and directing
    creative processes
  • participates in and directs creative processes 
  • learns to reflect art and picture as a
    socio-cultural phenomenon and become aware of the
    importance of visual expression in human
    existence  
  • learns to observe visually and to use these
    observations in target setting, follow up and
    evaluation of therapeutic work.
  • uses visual art expression in his/her own
    professional development

MUSIC THERAPY
  • The student learns methods of listening and
    improvisation as well as skills to use visual
    arts and dance and movement therapeutically as
    means of rehabilitation and self-expression.
  • The theoretical framework of the programme is
    eclectic
  • psycho-analytic, psycho-dynamic,
    humanist-existential, learning-theoretical and
    constructive approaches
  • On the background, emphasis is given to the
    socio-cultural importance of music
