Title: VALUE

1
VALUE
  • Drawing with Shade

2
Value
  • Is how we get the ILLUSION of three dimensions in
    a drawing
  • Creates depth on a flat object

3
For value, we need a light source

TENEBRISM
  • This is where you use HIGH CONTRAST to get a
dramatic effect. There are mostly DARK and LIGHT
areas with this type of shading..

6
Things to remember..
  • 1 we dont use LINES in value drawing. Let a
value be your edge.a dark value up next to a
light value produces an EDGE without having to
    draw a LINE

7
  • 2 When you add value to an object, really LOOK
at what you see. Make sure there is a GRADUAL
change from one value to the next, unless it
    really looks that way!

8
Pencils
  • The graphite pencils in here are different
    weights of lead
  • 2H hard lead, lighter mark
  • HB - a little softer lead, a bit darker mark
  • 4B, 5B, 6B much softer lead, dark mark
  • 4H 2H HB 2B 4B 6B 8B

9
Ways to shade
  • We have already talked about many of these..
  • Hatching
  • Cross hatching
  • Stippling
  • Smudge shading

10
1 --- Value Scales
  • You are going to create THREE separate value
    scales
  • 1 cross hatching
  • 2 your choice of mark
  • 3 smudging
  • Each will consist of 11 one-inch blocks in a row
  • The 1st block will be WHITE and the last will be
    BLACK

11
Example
  • Notice there are gradual steps to get from white
to black.if you blur your eyes, they are fade
    together nicely

2 Shaded Sphere
  • On your paper, you are going to draw a sphere
with a diameter of 6 inches, and SHADE it. Create
    an imaginary light source!
  • It should have
  • Highlight
  • Mid tones
  • Shadow
  • Reflected light
  • Cast shadow

13
3 Shaded Sphere (in sections)
  • On your paper, you are going to draw a sphere
with a diameter of 6 inches, and SHADE it. Create
    an imaginary light source!
  • It should have
  • Highlight
  • Mid tones
  • Shadow
  • Reflected light
  • Cast shadow

14
Arrange your paper like this
Value scales are 11 inches long, one inch for
each box
  • 3 value scales one w/cross-hatching, one w/
your choice of mark, one nicely blended
  • Sphere shaded. Show me the highlight,
mid-tones, dark tones, reflected light, and
    casted shadow
  • Any object on your table draw it once nicely
blended and shaded, draw it again using any type
    of mark for shading.
