Resolution was passed on Thurs., April 28th - The report caps overall discretionary spending at
843 billion - The House Appropriations Cmte. is expected to
approve the 302(b) allocations this week - Chairman Lewis is setting a goal to have all
approps bills passed in the House by July 4th

- Carl Perkins Voc. Tech. Ed
- House is expected to pass H.R. 366 today, Wed.,
May 4th - Senate passed S. 250 on March 10th unanimously
- House bill reduces state administration funding
from 5 to 2, while Senate bill provides up to
15 for state leadership and state administration

- Head Start
- House is expected to drop a Head Start bill
tomorrow, Thurs., May 5th - Senate is now drafting a bipartisan bill and
expects to introduce it early this month - Both chambers plan to mark up their bill in
Committee sometime this month

- House Ed Workforce Cmte. has introduced five
higher education bills - The contentious, College Access and Opportunity

- Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
- House passed H.R. 27 on March 2nd
- The Senates companion bill, S. 9, may see
committee action over the next several weeks - Data Systems
- U.S. Dept. of Ed has announced a competition for
grants to design, develop, and implement
statewide longitudinal data systems - Potential applicants are encouraged to file
letters of intent no later than May 13, and grant
