DISCOVER AOL Click Keyword and type in Discover
AOL. The screen brought up has several tabs.
Click each one to be introduce to the many, many
features of AOL and how to use them. AOL HELP
1. Do not sign online. Click HELP on AOL
menu bar and then click AOL HELP. Here
youll find instructions for using all the many
features of AOL. Ex. Click the beside
Resolving Common Problems to open the
book of topics. 2. Click on the topic that
describes your problem, and follow the
steps given. 3. Auto Fixes. Click the Index
in the HELP menu. Select your
problem. Try Auto Fixes in the order given. After
each, try using AOL to see if the
Auto Fix resolved the problem. If the problem
still exists, go to the next Auto
Fix. Auto Fix 1 Restart your computer. Auto
Fix 2 Uninstalls and reinstalls the AOL
Adapter. Auto Fix 3 Automatically redetects
your connection device.

Auto Fix 4 Deletes your current AOL
connection. Lets you set up a
new location with new access numbers, if
needed. Auto Fix 5 Deletes and rebuilds the
connectivity folder within the

Sign onto AOL , click HELP and print out the
Quick Reference Guide which
guides you through the features of
AOL with pictures. The AOL Toolbar Carousel
To access your Toolbar Carousel
Settings, click the CHECK MARK on
the lower right of the Toolbar Carousel. This
will give you quick access to the
controls for the Carousel section
of the Toolbar. From there, you can add, edit,
move, and remove AOL Toolbar icons.

To add a Toolbar icon 1. On the Toolbar
Carousel Settings window, click ADD. 2.
Click the EXTRAS or DEFAULTS tab. 3. Check
the items you want to add, then click ADD To
add a custom icon on the Toolbar 1. While
on AOL, navigate to the favorite area or site you
want to add. 2. Click the Heart icon on the
upper-right of the window, then click ADD
TO TOOLBAR. 3. In the Select Icon window,
select a Toolbar icon you want to use. 4. In
the Enter Label box, type the name for the
Toolbar icon (maximum of 8 letters), then
click SAVE. To edit a Toolbar icon 1. On
the Toolbar Carousel Settings window, click
EDIT.

2. Select the new icon you want to use, type
the new name in the Enter Label box, then
click SAVE. To move a Toolbar icon 1. On
the Toolbar Carousel Settings window, click the
icon you want to move, then click MOVE ICON
LEFT or MOVE ICON RIGHT. 2. Click SAVE.
To remove a custom icon 1. On the Toolbar
Carousel Settings window, click the icon you want
to remove, then click REMOVE. 2.
Click YES. Buddy list Click KEYWORD
and type in Buddyview to bring the buddy box
on screen. 2. On the Buddylist, Click
SETUP. Here you may add delete names or
create new groups for IM. 3. To add names,
select the group to which you wish to add names,
click

EDIT. Type in the new name, click SAVE. To
remove, highlight the name and click
DELETE. 4. To add a group, click CREATE
and give the group a name, etc.
CHURCH. 5. Click Set My Expressions.
Choose your preferences and SAVE. 6. A
buddys name on your buddy list screen means
that person is now online. If there is
a by the name, it means they are the
last to come online. A parenthesis around the
name means they were the last to go
offline. A name above list, offers you
the opportunity to invite them to
download the free AOL Instant Message
program. 8. You can highlight any name
listed on your buddy list screen (except
those in parenthesis) and invite them to go to a
chat room by clicking Buddy Chat , or
send them an IM by clicking IM. You may
also create a private chat room by giving the
chat room a name and saving it to
Favorite Places or to your AOL Carousel.

9. AOL 8 9 allows you to leave a message
when you wish not to respond to Instant
Messages. Select Message and click on one
of the canned messages or create one. Search
Email To search all folders for an email,
click READ on the AOL menu bar and then
click Search Mail. You may select to
search by email address or subject or both. Since
AOL uses quick fill, even if you only
remember the first letters of the email
address, you can find the email youre looking
for. Sort Email By clicking the headings
of each column in your Read list of
emails, you may sort by date, screen name or type
of email such as, People I know, only
addresses in your address book Everyone,
all email bulk senders, possible junk mail
Unknown senders, those not listed in your
address book. Automatic AOL Requires
stored password

1. On the Mail menu on the AOL toolbar,
click Set Up Automatic AOL. You will
be asked questions to help you create your
preferences. Or you may click Expert
Setup and select your own preferences from the
list given. 2. Select the screen
Name for which to run Automatic AOL. You will
be asked to put in password for this
screen name, unless you are already
online in this screen name. 3. Select the
tasks that you want Automatic AOL to perform.
These include Send mail from
the "Mail Waiting to be Sent" folder. Get unread
mail and put it in "Incoming Mail"
folder. Download files that are attached
to unread mail. Send postings from the
"Postings Waiting to be Sent" folder.
Get unread postings and put in "Incoming
Postings" folder. Download files marked
to be downloaded later. 4. Click Schedule
Automatic AOL. 5. Select the Enable
Scheduler check box, and select the days and
times you want Automatic AOL to run, and
then click OK.

6. Make sure the computer is on and the
America Online application is open (not
signed on) at the scheduled time. You can run
auto AOL anytime youre online without
creating a schedule simply by clicking
Mail and Run Auto AOL. Managing Offline Mail
Backup You may set a preference to backup your
personal storage folders every 1-4 weeks. Or
you may select to backup your storage each
time you sign offline. After signing
offline, click SETTINGS on the AOL menu bar.
Select MAIL SETTINGS. Click Manage Saved
Mail. Click Backup Restore If there is a need
to restore from the backup folder in your PC,
again, go to Settings, Mail Settings, Manage
Saved Mail and select Restore. Click Yes
in response to the question Are you sure you
want to restore your Personal Storage to
restore the information previously backed
up. You can only Restore Personal Storage if
youve previously backed up the Personal
Storage. The Restore will overwrite the
items now in the PFC folders on your hard drive
with the items in the backup folder for
Personal Storage.

Compact At least weekly you should clean up
your mail folders. Delete all old mail, sent
mail, recently deleted mail,etc. and Compact the
PFC in order to regain this space on your
hard drive. Click Settings, Mail Settings,
Manage Saved Mail and select Compact. Print
Address Book Click Mail on the AOL menu bar
and select Address Book. Click the Print
button at the bottom of the address book. Select
All or selected contacts. Then select to
print a Summary or Complete or Mailing
Labels. This is an excellent way to keep a
current hard copy of your address book as
you can also add addresses to the address book
that do not use email. Or to print Mailing
labels for your Christmas card list. The
labels required are too small in my opinion to be
used for mailing labels. They are about the
size of Return Address labels. Print Labels
Load Avery Labels 5160 into printer. Click
Mail on the AOL menu bar. Select Address Book.
Click Print and select the names or to print
all. Note Best to print one page on plain
paper first to confirm the correctness of
the labels youre planning to use.

Map the Address Must be online. Open
address book. Select the persons name, click
Full View on the right side of the screen
(Address Card). Scroll down and select the
Map IT link. Note Must use 2 digit state, such
as FL and not Florida. Sync AOL address
book Must be online and must download the
Intellisync program. Keyword AOL sync
Intellisync for AOL works with Blackberry, Palm
OS handheld and Pocket PC handheld devices,
as well as with Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Outlook Express and Palm Desktop
Windows applications. Open Address Book
and at the top, select ADDRESS BOOK OPTIONS.
Select Sync. If you have not yet installed
the Intellisync program, a screen will
appear to allow you to download and install the
program. After you download the sync
program, all you need to do is choose Sync
anytime you want to synchronize contact
information between your AOL Address Book and
other devices and programs.

AOL Multimedia AOL Multimedia Features
are numerous before signing online, click
HELP on the AOL menu bar. Click Content and then
click the beside Using AOL Multimedia.
Next double-click the AOL Media Player.
There youll find detailed instructions for using
the AOL Media Player. Print out the
particular feature youre learning about.
Now, click the by MY Picture Finder. There
youll find instructions for editing,
sending and using the AOL Picture Finder.
AOL Media Player You can choose to make the
AOL Media Player your default CD player.
After you have set this preference, the AOL Media
Player will start any time you insert an
audio CD into the CD ROM drive on your
computer. To make the AOL Media Player your
default CD player 1. Click the Settings button
on the AOL toolbar. 2. In the AOL Settings
window, click Multimedia 3. In the Player
Preferences section, select the Use the AOL
Media Player as my default CD player check
box. 4. Click Save.

Play Audio File Play audio files using AOL
Media Player 1. Click File on the AOL menu bar
and select Open. 2. Navigate to the folder on
your computer where the audio file is located.
Example C/windows/media\town 3.
Double-click the file to open it. 4. If the
file does not automatically begin to play, click
the Play button in the AOL Media Player
window. Play an Audio CD Play an audio
CD using the AOL Media Player 1. Insert the
CD into your CD ROM drive. 2. On the File
menu above the AOL toolbar, click Open CD/Media
Player. 3. Click View Tracks to select a
particular song to play. Playing a Video File
1. Click File on the AOL menu. Select Open.
2. Navigate to the folder on your computer that
contains the video file you want to
play. 3. Double-click the file to open it.

4. If the file does not automatically begin
to play, click the Play button in the AOL
Media Player window. AOL Picture Finder 1.
From the File menu, choose Open My Picture
Finder. 2. Select My Computer to view
pictures saved to your computer. 3. Click
Send in email to embedd the picture or pictures
into an email. 4. Address and send.
Select My Pictures on AOL to view pictures in the
AOL Picture Center Select
Pictures Ive Received to view pictures sent to
me by others and saved to my computer.
To edit a picture, first select it then
click EDIT Picture. You may also create
an album by selecting a number of pictures then
Create album. Give it a name. AOL
PICTURE CENTER 1. Click Keyword and type in
Pictures. Click GO to go to the AOL
PICTURE CENTER.

• Click MY PICTURES. Your Explore screen will

• pictures from your My Pictures folder.
• 3. Place a check in the boxes at the top
  right corner of picture to
• select them for your album.
• 4. Click CREATE ALBUM

• Click Continue.click FAST. All the selected
  pictures will be
• transferred to your New Album. You may
  add pictures later or
• remove them. You may add them from your

• 7. To share the pictures, bring up an email

• camera on the email forms menu bar.
  Choose INSERT. Or you
• can select Share right on the Album.

• 8. Your pictures and the list of Albums will
  appear. Click the
• particular Album and select particular
  pictures or click
• SELECT ALL.
• 9. Click INSERT. A picture will be embedded
  on the email.
• 10. Click Send Album link and a link to your
  album will be sent

AOL Calendar 1. Click the Services menu.
2. Select Calendar. 3. To Share the Calendar
with others, click Sharing on the left
side of the Calendar. Place a dot in the
Share Calendar. Enter the email
addresses of those with whom you wish to share
your calendar. Click Send Radio AOL
Dial-up users get FM quality sound (16Kbps)
designed to minimize stutter at
lower connection speeds while Broadband
users hear CD-quality sound (64 Kbps Dolby AAC)
and no audio advertisements. STARTUP
Settings A preference may be set to
start AOL Radio at the station used
last when you sign online. Click Settings, Radio
Setup, Startup. Place check in the
box. Presets Select the Category and
then pick the type of music you like
and Save these as your preset stations.
