Friday 17th March 2006 - Dear Ruth Kelly, MP,
- RESULTS ON QCA NATIONAL PROJECT ON THE CURRICULUM
- AT ST. JAMESS C.E. PRIMARY SCHOOL, STOURBRIDGE,
WEST MIDLANDS. - We are the School Council of St. Jamess Primary
School elected by other children in our school to
be their representatives. We have just planned
and carried out a research project in our school
with help from the QCA and School Councils UK.
We were one of only 6 schools chosen in the whole
country because of our enthusiastic School
Council and this research is going to be
published by QCA and shared with all schools in
the country. We learnt a lot through doing this
and thought you might be interested in what we
found out. - Children in our school are proud that they can
come here. We all get on well together and work
hard. We enjoy our lessons and learn lots of new
things because the teachers here make them
interesting. We think we play our full part in
the running of the school. - We asked a lot of questions about the best way
teachers can teach, how the teachers help us
learn, the most important part of a teachers
job, how we show what we have learnt, what we
enjoy most about subjects, how we like to learn,
what might stop us from learning, whether we
learn things that are really important to us and
what we would like to learn about in the future. - We found out lots of things but the main ones
are - Everyone liked art, learning about religions and
God, and subjects which required estimating and
investigating. - We liked sharing ideas, working with friends in
groups and being asked hard questions. - We all liked going on visits and having mentions
and housepoints. - Our school now knows what all our children think,
so we can use these things to make it even
better. We think all schools would benefit from
talking to everyone about how they like to learn
and what they enjoy about their school.
Collecting all this information together and
sharing it would get lots of great ideas for how
to make children in other schools feel more
involved with their school. - If you have time you could go on our website
www.st-james.dudley.gov.uk and if you have even
more time you could come and see us at work and
look at the file with all the detailed results.
We are going to talk to our Governors next week
and the teachers next term. We are also going to
run a meeting for all our parents too. - Yours sincerely,
