December MLS Sales Statistics

• The December and full year 2008 MLS statistics
  will be released on Tuesday morning, and here are
  some quick takeaways
• Sales of single-family homes across the greater
  Houston area fell 13.5 percent, compared to
  December 2007, which is a much smaller decline
  than we saw in the past couple of months.
• Hopefully, this will be the beginning of
  smaller year-over-year decreasesor even
  increases.
• Prices finally gave way to the supply-demand
  pressure in November, and that continued in
  December, with the median home price falling 6.1
  percent versus the year-ago figure.
• The average sales price dropped 10.4 percent.

Full Year 2008 MLS Sales Statistics

• The December and full year 2008 MLS statistics
  will be released on Tuesday morning, and here are
  some quick takeaways
• Total property sales in 2008 were down by 17.3
  percent as the Houston market dealt with more
  stringent lending standards, turbulent energy
  prices and worldwide economic uncertainty.
• Putting it in perspective though, sales were
  still at a good pace of nearly 190 properties
  changing hands every day.
• Prices were a little better on a full year
  basis, with the average single-family sales price
  rising 1.0 percent and the median coming in flat
  with 2007 levels.
• Total dollar volume of all property
  transactions declined 15.9 percent, to a level in
  line with 2005s full year figures.

Save the Date for Texas REALTOR Lobby Day in
Austin

• Your HAR Governmental Affairs Department
  invites you to join your fellow Texas REALTORS
  to attend Texas REALTOR Lobby Day in Austin, on
  Tuesday, March 31. It will be an informative and
  most of all fun day in Austin as you network with
  fellow REALTORS from all over the state and meet
  with your state lawmakers to discuss matters of
  concern to the real estate industry.
