• Those offered by Sports Leaders UK general
  activities
• Those offered by NGBs pathway towards coaching

Sports Leaders UK

• Level 1 in Sports Leadership
• Ages 14
• Complete 1 hour of volunteering after course for
  certification
• Level 2 in Community Sports Leadership
• Ages 16
• Complete 10 hours of volunteering after course
  for certification

NGB Leadership

• A wide range of sports-specific leadership
  awards, designed by NGBs and aimed at 14-19s
• Leadership (focus on development as coaches)
• Officiating, umpiring, refereeing

Sports Leadership Surrey

• Sports Leaders UK awards very popular in state
  education
• 54 courses registered for 2007/2008 academic year
• 38 schools/colleges running awards
• Private schools less established but there is
  growing awareness and interest
• NGB leadership awards
• More schools directly delivering awards
• SYCO programme courses run in the community

Step into Sport

• Sport England YST sports leadership programme
• Includes Sports Leaders UK NGB Leadership
  Awards
• Aim young people commence volunteering in school
  and community sport, and keep volunteering into
  later life
• After taking part in an award, young people log
  on to the Step into Sport website (the Volunteer
  Passport)
• ? record volunteering hours for national
  certificates
• Bronze 50 hours school volunteering
• Silver 100 hours volunteering (50 hours max in
  school)
• Gold 200 hours volunteering (50 hours max in
  school)

involved (1)

• Assist schools in the delivery of NGB leadership
• Preferred method is to run in school time
• Can help meet other educational outcomes
• So can teachers deliver your NGBs award(s)?
• YES - organise tutor training / inform teachers
  about how to organise awards
• NO How can teachers book tutors?
• ? Give the details to Active Surrey we can help
  promote to all state and private
  schools/colleges!

How your NGB / County Association can be
involved (2)

• Many awards require volunteer hours to be
  recorded in order to complete them
• More and more young people are being trained as
  future leaders, coaches and officials
• So we need to offer volunteering opportunities to
  students!
• Via school-club links future participants AND
  volunteers
• Via school noticeboards / teachers
• Through ASSP ? let us know of events requiring
  volunteers

How your NGB / County Association can be
involved (3)

• The Step into Sport website needs
• A volunteer (to record hours)
• Someone supervising the volunteer to verify the
  hours - a Volunteer Coordinator (dont confuse
  this with the Volunteer Coordinator on the club
  committee!)
• People supervising young volunteers (in schools
  and clubs) will therefore need to log on to the
  Step into Sport website and verify hours
• The ASSP website has more details
