Objective
  • To show the use the simple present.

Warm-up
  • The teacher will prepare a lyric (song) which
    contains verbs in the simple present.
  • Underline all the verbs and in each verb write
    something that you want the student to do. (e.g.
    Dance, Jump, Hug Someone, etc.)
  • The teacher will ask the students to stand up and
    go around to make a circle.
  • The teacher will pass on a hand-out with a song.
    The teacher will play the music and every time
    the student listen and recognize his/her verb
    he/she will do what is required for him/her to
    do.
  • Warm-up will take from 20-30 minutes.

Rule
  • The verb like is followed by the infinitive form
    of the verb.
  • Examples What do you like to do on the weekend?
  • I like to read.

  • Introduce like to
  • Tell about yourself and a friend. For example
  • I like to study English.
  • My brother Gerardo likes to play soccer.
  • Make sentences with forms of like to. Have
    students to repeat.

  • He likes to (play soccer).
  • We like to (sing).
  • They like to (draw).

Production 1Beanbag Toss
  • Have students toss a beanbag back and forth. The
    student to whom the beanbag is tossed names an
    activity he or she likes to do.
  • Student 1 I like to swim.
  • Student 2 I like to play soccer.
  • Student 3 I like to watch TV.

Production 2Grammar Chain
  • Start the chain game
  • Teacher I like to go to church on the
  • weekend.
  • (to a Student A) What do you like to do?
  • Student A must answer and ask Student B, who then
    continues the chain.

  • Student B I like to play cards.
  • (to Student C) What do you like to do?
