in Mathematics Reading and Written Composition

during your senior year.
6- Senioritis (aka slacking)
- def A chronic illness characterized by extreme
reluctance of students to perform even the most
routine requirements of day-to-day living. - cause impending adulthood
- cure get up and do what needs to be done!
- Senioritis is not only a waste of time and good
education it can be costly when applying for
post-secondary education.
7- As you register for classes for senior year, you
should keep in mind two things - 1. Am I taking the courses required to graduate?
- and more importantly
- 2. Am I taking the courses necessary to prepare
me for the next stage of my life?

- COMMUNICATIONS (2 terms)
- Read the descriptions of the courses in the
course guide carefully. - Balance your choices between Literature and
Writing. - Pay attention to () Communications courses
these may not be accepted as English preparation
by colleges and NCAA.
10- SOCIAL STUDIES
- MODERN PROBLEMS (2 terms)
- All seniors must take 2 terms of Modern
Problems. - Additional SS Electives available
- Ancient Civilization, Anthropology, AP Govt
Politics, Human Geography, AP Human Geography,
Current Issues, History of the Frontier, World
Religions, Womens Issues, Y.E.S., Leadership,
Psychology and AP Psychology, Global Economics,
Asian Studies.

A cooperative agreement among the University of
Minnesota Twin Cities and local community
colleges that guarantees admission to the College
of Liberal Arts after two years if certain
criteria are met.

- Special tests required by some highly selective
colleges - One-hour tests on a variety of subjects such as
American History, mathematics, and chemistry - Can take one, two, or three tests in one day
- Juniors taking AP examinations might consider
taking SAT Subject Tests in spring of junior year.

42Testing in the spring of Junior Year is highly
recommended
Often the scores will be sufficient for the
college the student selects. If the score is
not sufficient, there is time for preparation
before testing in the fall.

Admission has become extremely competitive!
Students interested in attending should refer to
the U of MN application booklet to help determine
the likelihood of admission to particular schools
48Minnesota has Tuition Reciprocity with three
states
Wisconsin North Dakota South Dakota
Minnesota students pay MN in-state costs when
attending public schools in these states. Must
apply for reciprocity
49WHEN TO APPLY
50 ADMISSION DEADLINES VARY Some deadlines, such
as Early Decision and specialized programs, can
occur in October University of Minnesota
priority deadline is December 15 In general,
students are encouraged to complete their
applications before winter vacation

a student obligation. The counseling office
requires 10 working days to process applications

56Calculating Financial Need The FAFSA
Families complete the FAFSA in February of senior
year. This form determines how much a family is
expected to contribute each year for educational
expenses.
57Avoid PANIC! Make an appointment to meet with
your counselor - early planning spreads the work
out. And Appreciate the Process. There are few
times in ones life when as many good options
exist!
