Management Control System (MCS)
  • Business Overview
  • MCS is a workflow based, end-to-end operation
    management product providing Operation Planning,
    Movement of Freight, Mechanical support,
Interfaces with other Railroads AAR and
Reporting. It is developed to cater the below
    needs
  • Automate the Train Operation from Waybill
    creation till closure
  • Help customers to order and track freight
    shipments online
  • Replace paper records used by train engineers and
    customer service agents
  • Provide business managers with a more effective
way to measure costs such as those of leased
    freight cars
  • Functional Overview
  • MCS Developed by Infosys consists of the
    following
  • Forecasting traffic volumes and planning
    accordingly
  • Transportation Scheduling
  • Dynamically monitoring the progress of shipments
  • Providing reports and alerts to customer service
and marketing personnel, based on events
    impacting trip schedule
  • Interface with other Railroads, AAR Customers

  • Service Request
  • Creating Service Request
  • Equipment Order
  • Moving equipment
  • Train Management
  • Transportation Scheduling
  • Mechanical
  • Corporate Master
  • Switching

Other Application Overview
  • Train, Yard Industries
  • TYI mainly deals with Activation of Trains,
Assignment of Units to train and Movement of
units across stations. It also maintains all
details regarding the Interchange of units
between Railroads and also the interpretation of
messages send to TSS by various systems like AEI
    CAD
  • Costing
  • The Activity Based Solutions system, otherwise
known as COST system, calculates the cost
incurred for BNSF in the transportation of
commodities from Origin to Destination. This is
done by calculating the cost of each activity
    (event) that the CAR undergoes.
  • Demurrage
  • Its a charge applied for using the equipment
beyond allotted time for loading or unloading.
The time is captured from the time the car is
    constructively placed at customers location
until it is released. This helps customer use
    the equipment effectively.
  • Service Scheduling Trip Plan Algorithm
  • It is a travel itinerary for the rail equipment
  • A sequence of planned Industry, Yard, and Train
events designed to move the rail equipment from
    origin to destination
  • It indicates an Estimated Date and Time for each
event, ultimately giving an Estimated Time of
    Availability at destination

7
Other Application Overview Cont
  • Intermodal
  • Intermodal deals with the part of rail
    transportation that covers the multi-modal
transportation of trailers and/or containers by
    ship, rail, and truck
  • Rate Price Management System
  • RPMS system is Pricing tool and its
    responsibility includes creation, maintenance and
expiration of different Price Authorities for
Customers internal and external. It also provides
interfaces to various systems for rating purposes
  • Waybill, WOR/NRT
  • The Waybill system handles all the processes
related to the creation and maintenance of
waybills. This system also interacts with many
other systems and gives information to them
  • Work Order Reporting (WOR) ,Near Real Time
Reporting (NRT) or Voice Train Reporting are ways
for reporting work by crews from different
    locations
  • Mechanical
  • Mechanical system provides methods to track
inventory and repair information of all cars and
    locomotives. It maintains details like
inspection, repair, maintenance and disposal of
    locomotives and rail cars
  • TSS Dispatching
  • The Dispatching application provides the train
dispatchers with a task list program that
identifies trains that need safety information
delivered via print, fax, or voicemail. The
safety information is packaged into a General
Track Bulletin format and delivered to the train
    crew
