What is Title I?

• Federal program that provides funds to high
  poverty schools.
• Focus - to provide supplementary or additional
  instruction to enable ALL students the
  opportunity to meet state standards (goal
  prevention)
• Cornerstone of No Child Left Behind
• Serves about 12.5 million students, primarily
  K-6, in the United States.

Title I Eligibility

• TTSD elementary schools with greater than 35
  Free and Reduced Lunch qualify as Title I schools
  - 6 out of 10 schools is TTSD are Title 1
  schools
• TTSD focuses its Title I funds on early reading
  intervention and prevention.
• TTSD uses DIBELS or IDELS and OSA to identify
  students at-risk of not meeting reading
  standards.
• Students who are homeless automatically qualify
  for Title I services if they have a need.
• Eligibility for Title I reassessed every 8 weeks.

What does Title I do?

• Provides additional reading support to children.
  Currently serving 162 students (K-5) in 30-60
  minute reading intervention groups.
• Before school (Zero Period)
• During school day
• Summer Camp
• Holds Family Events to inform and involve
  parents
• Open House
• Parent Visitation Day
• Two Literacy Nights
• Parent Advisory Reading Council (PARC)

Metzger School Plan

• Document that is revised and updated every year.
  Describes how the program will run at Metzger.
  Includes input from parents. (copies at back of
  room)
• Part of School Plan is to offer activities and
  opportunities that help parents more fully
  participate in their childs education. We do
  this by
• Reading Compact - completed at conferences
• Parent Education/Literacy events
• Parent Advisory Council
• Title I can pay reasonable and necessary expenses
  to enable family participation (i.e. - child
  care, translation, etc.)

Family Survey

• School Plan requires an annual family survey of
  current needs/interests. (will be completed at
  end of session tonight)

• Thursday, Nov. 20 Raising Readers K-1
• Mon/Tues, Dec. 8/9th Parent Visitation Days
• January 21st DIBELS testing day
