  • Concurrent means after your first year at UNB
    Saint John you apply to the program. If
    successful you continue your arts degree and
    begin taking ED courses.
  • Consecutive You have already a BA or another
    degree and do a B.Ed.
  • Year 1 10 BA courses (30ch)
  • Maximum ch 60

  • During the next four years you will take
  • 5 ED Core Studies Courses
  • 7 required Methods/Subject Courses
  • 3 ED electives (4 if you have psych 2201 instead
    of ED 3021)
  • 2 1 week observation ED 4003/ED 4004
  • 1 15 week Practicum ED 5000
  • Total 15 courses, 2 wks observation, 15 wks
    practicum 60 ch

Extra Things to Know and To Remember!
  • Psyc 1003 and psyc 1004 are prerequisites for
  • ED 3021 Human Growth and Development a core
    course.
  • If you take psyc 2201 Human Growth and
    Development (after taking pysch 1003 and 1004 and
    before acceptance into BE.d.) you will have to
    take an extra ED elective course.

Extra Things to Know and To Remember!
  • If you do not take a MATH course prior to
    acceptance into the BE.d., you will have to take
    MATH 2633 Fundamental Principles of Elementary
    Math before taking ED 3424 Teaching Elementary
    School Mathematics.
  • ED 3424 is a required subject/methodology
    course.
  • ED 4003 and ED 4004 are each 1 week classroom
    observations. They will be arrange by the ED
    Coordinator. You do your 1st one in April of
    your 1st year.

Extra Things to Know and To Remember
  • For ED 4003 and ED 4004 there is no extra
    charge and there is no credit by they are
    REQUIRED prior to the 15 week (15ch) PRACTICUM
    ED 5000.

How do I apply?
  • If you are truly interested in applying you may
    come to the ED Office 205 of Hazen Hall to get a
    form.

  • All applications must be in before January 31st,
    2008. Registrars Office UNB Saint John.
  • You must have two (2) letters of reference.

How do I apply?
  • Letters of Reference?
  • From individuals who have seen you working with
    young children (elementary age) or can attest
    that you would be an asset to the teaching
    profession.
  • Letter of Intent you state why you want to
    become a teacher.

How do I apply?
  • Letters of reference are sent directly to the
    Registrars Office.
  • You will be notified as soon as possible,
    however, in many instances the committee waits
    for final marks in April.
  • You will not be considered for the Concurrent
    Program with less than a GPA of 2.7 (B-).

    WE TRY TO HONOUR YOUR CHOICE.
  • YOU WILL RECEIVE OBSERVATION FORMS TO COMPLETE
    AND YOU MUST ATTEND A CLOSING SEMINAR ON THE
    FRIDAY OF EACH WEEK.

PRACTICUM
  • AT PRESENT THE PRACTICUM ED 5000 IS ORGANIZED BY
    THE FIELD STUDIES OFFICE AT UNB FREDERICTON.
  • DURATION 15 WKS
  • NO COURSES TO BE DONE DURING THIS PERIOD.

CONSECUTIVE BE.D AT UNB FREDERICTON
  • You must have a BA or another degree.
  • Want to teach at the Middle or High School level.
  • Generally 4 years, 40 courses for a total of 120
    ch.
  • 1.5 2 year program (changes as we speak)
  • 15 ED courses (45 ch)
  • 2 1 wk observations (ED 4001 / ED 4002)
  • 15 week practicum (15 ch)
  • 60 ch in total
  • GPA 3.0, rest of application the same.
