Restoring the Priority of God's Word
  • Psalm 1199-16

Diocletian Roman Emporer from A.D. 284-305

  • The magistrate asked, Are you Felix the
bishop? I am, he answered. Hand over whatever
books or parchment you posses. I have them, but
I will not give them up, came his response. The
magistrate said, Hand over the books to be
burned. It would be better for me to be burned
rather than the Divine Scriptures. For it is
better to obey God rather than men.

- According to The Medieval World View By
William Robert Cook, Ronald B. Herzman

  • The vigor of our spiritual life will be in exact

    thoughts and life
  • George Mueller

What people have said about Psalm 119
  • It is not long only for it equally excels in
breadth of thought, depth of meaning, and height
of fervor. Many superficial readers have imagined
that it harps upon one string and abounds in
pious repetitions and redundancies but this
arises from the shallowness of the readers own
mind those who have studies this Divine hymn and
carefully noted each line of it are amazed at the
variety and profundity of the thought.
    Charles Spurgeon
  • It always exceeded the powers of his intent
thought and the utmost grasp of his faculties.
    St. Augustine
  • Brings you to be in love with all the rest of
    the Scriptures. Matthew Henry

Psalm 1199-16
  • How can a young man keep his way pure? By living
according to your word. I seek you with all my
heart do not let me stray from your commands. I
have hidden your word in my heart that I might
not sin against you. Praise be to you, O Lord
teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all
the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in
following your statutes as one rejoices in great
riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider
your ways. I delight in your decrees I will not
    neglect your word.

  • Never was there a more important question for
any man never was there a fitter time for asking
    it.
  • Charles Spurgeon

9
The difference 3 can make
10
  • The difference between Christians and the lost
is that the treasure of the lost is outward and
the treasure of the Christian is inward.
  • William Cowper

11
  • Here is the best thing Gods Word hidden in
the best place in my heart for the best
purpose that I might not sin against you.
  • Charles Spurgeon

12
Temptation of Jesus Matthew 4

word that comes from the mouth of God.
    Deuteronomy 83
  • Do not put the Lord your God to the test.
  • Deuteronomy 616

John 1423-26
  • If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.
My Father will love him, and we will come to him
and make our home with him. He who does not love
me will not obey my teaching. These words you
hear are not my own they belong to the Father
who sent me. All this I have spoken while still
with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name, will teach
you all things and will remind you of everything
    I have said.

14
  • It is not the digging into the golden min, but
the digging long, that finds and fetches up the
treasure. It is not the diving into the sea, but
staying longer, that gets the greater quantity of
pearls. To draw out the golden thread of
meditation to its due length will the spiritual
ends be attained, this is a rare and happy
    attainment. Nathanael Ranew
  • To some men, meditation is a task to the man
seeking God, it is a joy. Charles Spurgeon

15
Practical Application
