• John Wayne Gacy Sr.
• Was an abusive alcoholic
• Physically and verbally assaulted his children
  and wife on a frequent basis
• Made no effort to hide his disappoint- ment in
  Gacy

• Gacy not the ideal son he always wanted

• Father often referred and teased him for being a

Adulthood

• Gacy enrolled in a business college and developed
  a talent for salesmanship
• Worked as a shoe salesman for awhile and excelled
  into a higher position
• Realized he wanted more for himself
• 1964, Gacy married Marilyn Myer
• Her father owned a fried chicken restaurant
• Immediately, was offered a managerial position

The Beginning

• In 1968, Gacy was arrested for the first time
• Felony charge against him was for an attempt to
  coerce a male employee into Homosexual acts
• Pled guilty and was sentenced to 10 years to
  state prison
• Wife filed for divorce

Big Surprise

• Came as a big surprise to those who thought they
  knew the likable father of two toddlers,
  especially his wife of four years
• Members of the community would have never
  suspected Gacy was capable of such an act
• Everyone was very shocked to find out this is the
  same man theyve thought to have known

Life after Prison

• After serving 18 months, Gacy was paroled on
  October 18, 1971
• Returned to Chicago with the states permission
• He remarried and settled in a middle-class
  neighborhood
• Established his own successful contracting
  business
• Quickly adjusted in his new community

The Entertainer

• Was liked and admired by many
• Friendly, honest, and hard-working man
• Very involved in his community
• Precinct captain in the local Democratic Party
• Hosted many elaborate street parties
• Dressed up as a clown frequently to entertain
  children and attend charity events as Pogo the
  Clown

Temptations

• Gacy could no longer resist his urges for his
  love of boys
• February 12, 1971, Gacy was charged with
  disorderly conduct in Chicago
• The complaint of a boy he attempted to rape
• First murder occurred on January 3, 1972
• Picked up a young unidentifiable man at a bus
  terminal

Gacys Preys

• Varied in age groups
• Victims were young as nine years old and ranged
  up to early 20s
• Was not discriminate of class
• Preyed on just about anyone he can get close to
• Targeted his young friends and employees

The Act

• By luring them with drinks or a game of pool
• Showed them tricks with his special handcuffs
  
• Brought out sex toys
• Performed a rope trick
• Buried his victims in a crawl space underneath
  his house

The Perfect Opportunity

• 1978, Gacys marriage to his second wife began to
  crumble and fall apart
• Divorce gave him opportunity
• To hurry up his process for luring young victims
  to his home and raping them
• No one can slow him down now
• His sexual urges were becoming a full-time
  obsession

• Between April 6 and June 13, 1976, Gacy
  slaughtered at least five boys at his house
• Oct. 35, 1976, killed two victims at once
• Dec. 1977, he abducted another victim at gunpoint
  
• Chloroformed another victim
• The killing spree continues
• Number of victims keeps exceeding

Caught in The Act

• Finally caught and convicted in 1980
• Not sure how many innocent victims tortured and
  raped
• Was convicted of 33 counts of murder
• 28 bodies were found underneath his house
• Five bodies were recovered from local rivers
