Title: Welcome To
1Welcome To Sunday School Class
2Something To Think About
There were three groups (or sects) of people
among the Jews during the time of Jesus
Pharisees, Sadducees, and the Essenes. The group
in prominence in todays lessonand the group
that gave the Lord the most troublewas the
Pharisees, the most influential of the three
sects.
3The Gospel Of Mark
- John Mark, the son of a believer named Mary and
nephew of Barnabas, wrote the gospel of Mark
In todays lesson we will study about The
Pharisees, who were the separated ones and were
very strict in keeping not only the written law,
but the oral tradition as well.
4Making Mountains Out of Molehills Mark Chapter 2
5Lesson Objectives
- To detect the resentment of the Pharisees
- To recognize the error of the teachings of the
Pharisees - To evaluate our own Pharisaical tendencies
6KEY VERSE Mark 222And no man putteth new
wine into old bottles else the new wine doth
burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and
the bottles will be marred but new wine must be
put into new bottles.
7FAILURES IN FASTING Mark 218-22 The
Disciples of Christ Were Different (18) John
135-37 Matthew 616 Rigidity Exposed
(19-22) Matthew 616-18
8- Are we truly worshiping God, or just practicing
the same old forms and rituals? - The religionists of Jesus day were steeped in
their rigid observances.
9- HARPING ABOUT HARVESTING
- Mark 223-28
- The Disciples Accused of Lawbreaking
- (23, 24)
- Deuteronomy 2325
- Jesus Illustrates the Spirit of the Law (25-28)
- 1 Samuel 211-6 Exodus 2523-30 Leviticus
245-9
10- What is proper use of the Lords Day for us
today? - Certainly it should be a day of worship!
- Hebrews 1025
- Proper use of the Lords Day could be a dramatic
- testimony to an unbelieving world of our
allegiance to the Lord
11- SET-UP ON THE SABBATH
- Mark 31-6
- Scrutiny for the Savior (1, 2)
- Luke 67 Luke 141 Luke 2020
- Indifference to Needs (3-6)
- Matthew 274 Luke 1839
12But, we must not forget that being a Christian
involves much more than daily rituals. It
involves a close personal relationship with God.
The Pharisees missed out on all of those
things. There are in every community and
every church, watch dogs, who feel called upon to
keep their eyes on others and growl. T.

13- QUESTIONS FOR STUDY AND DISCUSSION
- Exactly who were the Pharisees? How did they come
to have the ideas they held about the Law of God? - 2. In what ways did Jesus deliberately contradict
the teachings of the Pharisees in this lesson? - 3. What is the danger in applying our own
traditions and presuppositions to the
interpretation of Scripture?
14- How are we to maintain moral and spiritual
standards that are biblical and yet avoid the
error of the Pharisees? - How could the Pharisees have responded
differently to the teachings of Jesus?
