Something To Think About
There were three groups (or sects) of people
among the Jews during the time of Jesus
Pharisees, Sadducees, and the Essenes. The group
in prominence in todays lessonand the group
that gave the Lord the most troublewas the
Pharisees, the most influential of the three
sects.
3
The Gospel Of Mark
  • John Mark, the son of a believer named Mary and
nephew of Barnabas, wrote the gospel of Mark

In todays lesson we will study about The
Pharisees, who were the separated ones and were
very strict in keeping not only the written law,
but the oral tradition as well.

    today?
  • Certainly it should be a day of worship!
  • Hebrews 1025

But, we must not forget that being a Christian
involves much more than daily rituals. It
involves a close personal relationship with God.
The Pharisees missed out on all of those
things. There are in every community and
every church, watch dogs, who feel called upon to
keep their eyes on others and growl. T.

  • QUESTIONS FOR STUDY AND DISCUSSION
  • Exactly who were the Pharisees? How did they come
to have the ideas they held about the Law of God?
  • 2. In what ways did Jesus deliberately contradict
the teachings of the Pharisees in this lesson?
  • 3. What is the danger in applying our own
    traditions and presuppositions to the
    interpretation of Scripture?

14
  • How are we to maintain moral and spiritual
standards that are biblical and yet avoid the
    error of the Pharisees?
  • How could the Pharisees have responded
differently to the teachings of Jesus?
