1
Information Communication Technology in
Learning Teaching
  • Assignment 3
  • Due Date
  • Fri June 17th, 2005

2
  • Assignment 3 A simple learning package (2500
    words)
  • Develop a simple learning package that integrates
ICTs into one of the following topics
  • Australian authors and their contribution to
    understanding Australian society
  • Planning a holiday
  • Combating obesity with healthy eating
  • Survival in natural disasters

3
Assignment submission
  • The assignment is to be done as a word processed
    document of approx 2500 words
  • Your assignment is to be submitted as a hard copy
into the designated assignment boxes near the
reception in the DeLissa building by 5pm on June
    17th
  • Appendices can be used where further explanation
    is required.

4
What is a simple learning package?
  • Similar to a unit of work
  • Learning package consists of a series of lessons
(approximately 4-6) made up of one or more
    activities
  • The package must demonstrate the integration of a
    number of technologies
  • Not all lessons are required to use computer
    technologies
  • It is simple because as yet you have not been
    introduced extensively to curriculum frameworks

5
Assignment Components
  • Identify your topic
  • Aims of the learning package
  • Target audience (year level/s)
  • Relevant learning areas
  • Learning outcomes
  • Rationale for the choice of technologies and
their uses in the lessons with reference to the
    research literature
  • A series of lessons
  • Assessment of learning outcomes
  • Evaluation of learning package
  • References

6
Your topic
  • Choose one topic from the four listed in your
    course information booklet
  • Brainstorm ideas around how you might create a
    series of lessons
  • What are suitable activities?
  • What technologies might enhance the learning of
    this topic?

7
Aims of learning package
  • In a sentence or two state the major purpose of
    this package

8
Audience
  • Choose a year level/s for which you will prepare
    this package
  • When choosing a year level consideration should
    be given to the following
  • The language used
  • Degree of difficulty of the activities
  • Time allowed
  • Software chosen
  • Prior knowledge of the students

9
Relevant learning areas
  • Ideally aim for cross curricular activities
  • How might the activities support the development
of knowledge understanding in other learning
    areas
  • For example Planning a holiday may reflect
learning outcomes in Maths, S E, The Arts

10
Rationale
  • What is a rationale?
  • Simple concise statements that justify or explain
(using the literature) why youve chosen
particular technologies for the activities and
    how they may enhance learning.
  • How are the technologies being integrated?
  • Appropriateness of the design
  • The rationale must be strongly supported with
    references from the research literature

11
Integration of the technologies
  • Learning the technology technology skills
  • Using the technology in place of other
    alternatives
  • For example Word processor instead of writing or
    PowerPoint instead of poster
  • Achieving new learning outcomes that are enabled
    by using the technologies
  • For example Lots of charts, global interactions
  • Changing learning practices

12
Some benefits of the technology integration
  • Edit and review cycle
  • Equalisation
  • Publishing to an audience
  • Multiple copies
  • Mobile format
  • Enhanced social interaction
  • Enhanced cognitive skills
  • Catering for individual differences
  • Other

13
Learning Outcomes
  • Outcomes must be measurable observable, not
airy, fairy ideas or pie in the sky stuff
  • Identify learning outcomes against each lesson
  • What do you want students to have achieved at the
    end of each lesson?
  • How will this be measured and/or observed?

14
The lesson
  • Identify learning outcome/s
  • What is the activity/s? This should be outlined
    as clearly as possible
  • Either explaining it in a paragraph or over a
    number of paragraphs
  • You may prefer to explain it as a series of steps
    or dot points
  • Clearly indicate technologies being used
    including computer technologies where relevant

15
Resources
  • Resources that you require should be indicated
either for the whole unit of work or against each
    lesson.

16
Assessment
  • How will you assess the unit of work? this must
    be indicated
  • Assessment should measure the achievement of the
    learning outcomes
  • Indicate assessment criteria

17
Evaluation
  • Evaluation is different from assessment.
  • Assessment measures the learning outcomes
  • Evaluation measures the success of the unit of
    work
  • Did students enjoy the unit?
  • What did they learn?
  • What did they enjoy the most?
  • What did they find difficult?
  • Was the learning package effectively implemented?
  • How can the unit of work be improved?
  • Etc.

18
Reference List
  • Using APA referencing style, list the resources
    used in your learning package.
  • There should be a strong presence of in-text
    references in the rationale
