7Role of RAHCs
- The role of the Regional Aboriginal Housing
Committees is to advise on the development of the
Aboriginal housing programs and policies.
Establish effective links with ATSIC, Land
Councils and other key stakeholders at a regional
level. (RAHCs are established under Section 32 of
the Aboriginal Housing Act 1998)

- 92 Registered Aboriginal Housing Providers,
Kamilaroi (38), Many Rivers (54) - 1,684 properties managed by Aboriginal Housing
Providers, Kamilaroi (690) Many Rivers (994) - 2,450 applicants on Aboriginal Housing Providers
waiting list, Kamilaroi (1,150) and Many Rivers
(1,300) - 1,472 AHO properties manage by DOH, Kamilaroi
(567) Many Rivers (905) - 1267 on AH0 waitlist with DOH

- 2001 Census, Aboriginal Housing Provider
information, Department of Housing information
and knowledge by RAHC members used to determine
regional need priorities - Census information indicates a significant
increase in the Aboriginal population in the
region over the last five years. Regional target
group priorities include young families, youth,
aged and people with disabilities

- 2002/2003 regional capital works program includes
19 new acquisitions and 9 construction projects.
It also includes 2 dwelling extensions, 9
development planning projects, 1 AMP restoration
project, and 1 infrastructure project. - HOME Training
