About the Programs

3History of Our Districts After School Programs
The Program started in 2000 at two schools, with
initial grant funding through the Federal 21st
Century Community Learning Centers Program.
Currently all schools are funded through the
After School Education and Safety Program (Prop
49), the CalServe Initiative, district funds and
individual contributions.

experiences that address community needs, provide
community connections, enhance academic learning,
stimulate healthy youth development and promote
civic responsibility.
4Our After School Programs
- C.A.R.E (Clubs, Academies, Recreation
Enrichment) - Components that are aligned with the regular
school days themes Homework Center, Physical
Education Center Enrichment Center - Open at all school sites August 23, 2006-June 6,
2007 from school dismissal until 600 PM (Closed
on School Holidays) - Students are enrolled by their parents students
enrolled in C.A.R.E may also participate in AI,
Service Learning and GATE classes - Academic Intervention (AI)
- Classes that provide students with extra help in
math and reading - Taught by certificated teachers in 3 sessions
over the school year - Taught 3 days per week the 1st hour immediately
after dismissal - Students are enrolled by school staff with parent
permission (Academic Liaison) - Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) and Service
Learning - Classes that strengthen student leadership and
good citizenship provide challenging, hands-on
experiences that build skills and use multiple
teaching strategies that appeal to students
various learning styles, interests and abilities.
- Taught by certificated teachers on a varied
schedule over the school year - Taught 1-3 days per week the 1st hour
immediately after dismissal

- Overall Goal To provide safe and supervised
after school environments and enrichment
activities that improve academic achievement and
school participation. - Participation Goal To serve a minimum of 100
students per school site every day.

progress to the next grade level. - To provide a supportive learning environment.
- To have fun while we learn.
- To make friends and be a good friend.
- To help students complete their homework daily.
- To discover new interests and a passion for
learning.

- Be Safe Be Responsible Be Respectful
- CONSEQUENCES
- If a student does not respect the rights of
others and disregards the verbal reminder(s) from
staff, the following consequences can be
expected - Appropriate Time Out
- Parents contacted by phone and/or note
- Conference between parent instructor and/or
Site Lead and possibly student - Disregard of the rights of others and/or
interference with the operation of the Program
will result in suspension or termination from the
Program.
Suspension or termination from the program is for
the program year (i.e. a student expelled in the
04-05 school year is eligible for re-enrollment
at the start of the 05-06 school year).
