So far this summer, 18 Sailors lost their lives.

How Did They Die This Summer?

• 1 pedestrian was struck and killed
• 5 died in off-duty recreation mishaps, including
  3 water-related mishaps
• 5 died in motorcycle crashes and 7 died in cars
  and trucks

• 3 died in off-duty recreation mishaps, ALL of
  which were water related.
• 6 died in car and truck crashes and 1 died in a
  motorcycle accident.

Labor Day Off-Duty Recreation

• 76 of all Labor Day 2008 reportable events were
  recreation mishaps.
• 1 fatal motorcycle crash.

• Only 1 mishap last Labor Day was attributed to
  alcohol, but its often under-reported and the
  real impact may be much higher.

• Nearly 80 of crashes and 65 of near-crashes
  involved some sort of driver inattention.
