What was the problem?
  • In 2003 63 of residents in Blackburn with
    Darwen saw vandalism, graffiti and other
    deliberate damage to property or vehicles as a
    very big or fairly big problem in their local
    area. (BVPI Household Survey 2003)
  • 4617 offences of criminal damage recorded in
    Blackburn with Darwen during 2003/200, at an
    estimated cost of 3,998,322 to the borough
  • 2003/2004 criminal damage constituted 41 of all
    BCS crime
  • 189 criminal damage incidents in school (1/4/05
    31/1/06)
  • Local reporting suggested offenders were likely
    to be young males
  • BwD exceed the average recorded by the most
    similar CDRPs

    very big or fairly big problem in their local
    area. (BVPI Household Survey 2006) 24

  • 4343 incidents recorded during 2005-2006 6

  • Approximately 4 reduction likely for 2006-2007
  • 128 criminal damage incidents in schools (1/4/06
    31/1/07) 32 reduction
  • 233 FPN issued for criminal damage offences
