The Importance of Sunday

• On the seventh day God rested he blessed the
  seventh day and made it Holy
• Ten Commandments keep the Sabbath day Holy
• Jewish Sabbath (Saturday) is the seventh day
• Christianity split from its parent religion,
  Judaism, its Holy day became Sunday
• Jesus rose from the dead on the Sunday
• Pentecost (birth of the church) was a Sunday

Holy Communion the meaning

• The bread Jesus body, the wine Jesus blood
• Thanksgiving to Jesus for dying on the cross so
  that sins can be forgiven
• Sharing in the body of Christ together as a
  Christian community
• Thanksgiving to God for the gift of his Son who
  died on the cross
• Remembrance of the great gift that Jesus gave
  his own life

• Liturgical Prayer set words that are recited
  e.g. the Lords prayer
• Non-liturgical Prayer prayers that are made up
  by the worshipper
• Four main aspects
• - Adoration
• - Confession
• - Thanksgiving
• - Supplication

Symbols and aids used for worship

• Crucifix or cross used to remember that Christ
  died on the cross so that people can be forgiven
• Rosary beads used by Catholics when saying
  special prayers
• Statues of Mary and Saints, used for the focus
  of prayer and worship (again particularly by
  Catholics)
