• Maintain Balance! Be a good IE!

Balance/Efficiency

• Manage your time
• Accept your limitations
• You cant do everything, prioritize
• Expect to have problems
• Dont assume 0.575 hours to review a thesis draft
  it will probably take at least 4 hours! Enjoy
  the extra time if you finish early.
• Put space into your schedule
• Email, phone calls, time with your colleagues,
  lunch with friends and family, class preparation,
  research time
• Prune your activities from time to time
• Always ask is this a priority?

  evenings/afternoons
• Let the kids be involved Help with graphics on
  presentations (They might have some good ideas!)
• Maintain a Saras File
• Let them enjoy your open work environment

• Recruit for your program (e.g., Shiloh,
  Springdale schools, Fayetteville schools)
• Take your family to conferences
• Recruit for graduate programs, meet with a
  colleague, when you are on a trip (e.g., now
  have friends at OR State, ASU, )
• Read technical items at your leisure (I know, it
  sounds nerdy)
• Lunch with friends/colleague

• You likely have the best job in the world
• Environment
• Flexible, autonomous, open, creativity is
  encouraged, ..
• Make it work there is an optimal solution for
  you
• If IEs cant make it work, then Houston really
  does have a problem!
• Make your job fun for the family and your friends
  make it work for you!
