At St Franciss Childrens Society we are
conscious of how society is developing and the
needs of children who have been placed for
adoption. There is a desperate shortage of
adopters from Ethnic backgrounds or those in
Mixed Ethnic relationships to match the children
who are waiting in the care system for permanent
families. Anancy Families was successfully
launched in the summer of 2007 where prospective,
approved and adopters of children of Black
Minority Ethnic and Mixed Heritages are able to
meet each other with their children to celebrate
childrens diversity and find support from
adopters and professionals. Anancy Families also
aims to provide informal networking support for
prospective adopters, opportunities for joint
cultural celebrations and fun for children. The
group enables parents of different ethnicity than
their adopted child to understand heritage,
promote identity and to share knowledge or
information. Anancy Families is available to
those who are registered with St Franciss
Childrens Society or other Agencys who are
