  • Vikings visited between 1000 and 1200

  • British captured Quebec in 1759 and took over
    Canada, but a lot of French culture remains
    especially in Quebec
  • Canada became independent from Great Britain
    peacefully on July 1, 1867, which is celebrated
    as Canada Day.
  • Government is a democracy led by Prime Minister.
    Paul Martin of the Liberal Party has been prime
    minister since 2003 but faces new election on
    Jan. 23, 2006.
