    relevant fact sheets, available from TP website

WHAT TYPE OF SCHEME IS THE TEACHERS PENSION
SCHEME (ENGLAND WALES)
  • Statutory Scheme subject to the Teachers
    Pensions Regulations 1997 (as amended)
  • Defined benefit final salary scheme paying
    guaranteed inflation proof benefits

  • 172 local authorities (LAs).
  • 2,098 non local authorities (Non LAs).
  • Total of 2,270 employers across England and
    Wales.

  • Appointments.
  • Amendments to records.
  • Absences from service.
  • Leaving pensionable employment.

APPOINTMENTS
  • Provide teacher with scheme information as
    required under Pensions Act.
  • Notify TP of appointment by form TR6 or via TP
    Online at www.teacherspensions.co.uk.
  • Member Ref number required if using TP Online
  • TP issues an appointment statement.

  • Verify/amend date of birth

ABSENCES FROM WORK
Maternity/Paternity/Adoption
  • Treated as pensionable provided teacher receives
    any salary or SMP/SPP or SAP
  • Parental leave is not pensionable
  • Any period where teacher has no salary or SMP/SPP
    or SAP is not pensionable but has death grant
    cover

KEEPING IN TOUCH (KIT) DAYS
  • Member in receipt of SMP or salary days not
    counted as pensionable
  • Member NOT receiving SMP or Salary but is paid on
    the annual salary rate counted as pensionable
  • Member paid nominal amount not counted as
    pensionable

    available.

End of year Certificate of Contributions and TR17A
  • All employers must have their Certificate of
    Contributions completed by 30 April.
  • If this is correctly audited, you do not need to
    complete the TR17A, which is required by
  • 30 September.

ANNUAL RETURN
Annual Return MUST be submitted by 31st
August All teachers full time or part time
should be included on the Annual Return whether
contributing to the TPS or not. This should also
include any teacher in receipt of benefits from
the TPS
