• Waste material grapple recapture with the ROV

Problem The Carillon power station is a
run-of-river power station. The waste material
grapple fell upstream from unit 4 after the
breaking of its steel wire rope. The use of the
ROV allowed work in simple access mode to the
installation with a short time of set-up. Only 2
units were stopped instead of 5 with the divers
method. Stoppage of more than 2 units at this
particular time would have resulted in a waste of
water.

ROV utilisation payback
Conclusion The use of the ROV for the recovery
of the waste material grapple of the power
station provided savings of more than 90,000 and
was a safer alternative than using divers. The
use of assisted control modes and the virtual
navigation environment made it possible to
efficiently perform the task.
