5Notebooks
You will need a spiral notebook that you will use
only on this research project! I will check your
notebook on Fridays. If you have anything in the
notebook besides your research notes, you will
lose points! The research packet has a page
showing you how to set up your notebook and I
will explain it. You will lose serious points if
you do not use this method.
6How to Take Notes
Notes
???
Comments/Ideas
Write citation information at top of page. Take
note on source here.
Comments about the information you found. Ideas
on how to use the information. How does this
information fit into your research? What can you
do with the information?
Ques. about source or info.
(Spiral of notebook)
7Internet Sources
You may staple Internet sources into your
notebook and highlight important information. (We
will talk about how to highlight correctly.)
Only staple one Internet page on one notebook
page. So if you Internet article is three pages
long, it will require three notebook pages with a
response written for each page.
8Internet Sources cont.
Because of the vast amount of information on the
Internet (both accurate and inaccurate), you will
need to complete an evaluation on any Internet
site you use in your research. The evaluation
form is in your packet. We will discuss the form
and do a practice site evaluation together so you
know what to do. Keep all site evaluations with
your research.
9Writing Your Paper
Do not wait until November to start writing your
paper! You can begin drafting sections of your
paper as you research. Every part of your
multigenre paper must be revised and edited. Once
you have completed a first draft, you will post
the draft to our secure web site. Those students
who are assigned to respond to your pieces will
read it and give you constructive criticism.
10Writing Your Paper
So let your responders know that your have posted
a piece to the web site. I will also respond to
your pieces via the web site. After you have
received at least three responses to your piece,
you will revise it. This does not mean change
punctuation. This means rewrite it and repost it
to the web site, indicating that it is a
revision.
11Final Paper
Only pieces that have been revised and edited may
be included in your paper. I will keep track,
via the website, of your postings and revisions.
Everyone will have access to the Internet during
class time, so posting and responding should not
be a problem.
12Presentations
Every student will present a reading consisting
of two or more pieces written for the multigenre
research paper. Information on the presentation
is included in your research packet.
Presentations will be scheduled for the week
before winter break. You must be in school on the
day your presentation is scheduled.
