Virtual Library
The Virtual Library is a collection of electronic
resources that IMechE members can access from
their own desktops. This presentation will
describe each of the services available in the
Virtual Library. If you have any questions,
please contact a member of ILS staff at

Logging in
To access the Virtual Library you need to log in
to the Members Area from the IMechE homepage.

After logging in, click on Members Virtual
Library Service and you will be presented with a
list of databases.

Click on top section hits to be taken directly to
relevant pages or the books titles to browse
their tables of contents.

Full-text and citation access to thousands of
trade and academic journals allowing you to
search for business, industry and market
information.

Full Text to download the paper.

You can download papers from the latest issue of
the IMechE proceedings journals free of charge
for your own use.

Papers are downloaded in PDF format, and can be
saved, or printed. Older papers can be borrowed
or purchased from the ILS.

Efunda provides engineering reference data,
including formulae, materials datasheets and unit
conversion tools.

For example, you can convert bar to megapascals,
look up Hookes Law or Reynolds Numbers all
directly from your desktop.

The most comprehensive database of worldwide
engineering literature abstracts. Search for
papers and reports on a particular topic.

refine your search, print or email your results.
The ILS can then help you locate papers.

Hundreds of full-text engineering handbooks to
search and download. Click on my subscription
to search titles IMechE subscribes to.

The Library and Archive catalogues can be
accessed directly from the IMechE website as well
as in the Virtual Library.

The library catalogue contains records for over
70,000 items. Search for a particular item or by
subject or keyword. View current journals and
recent acquisitions.

Abstracts are provided for IMechE proceedings and
seminar papers, as well as for papers of the
Institution of Automotive Engineers and
Institution of Locomotive Engineers.

The IMechE Archive Catalogue contains details of
historical artefacts, manuscripts, drawings and
older membership records.

A brief description of each item is given. If you
wish to view any archival material please contact
the ILS to make an appointment.

A resource of digitised pictures from the IMechE
archive collection. The gallery can be browsed by
subject area. The gallery can also be accessed
directly from the IMechE website.

and print purchase enquiries can be made.

A directory of consultants and expert witnesses
who are members or fellows of the IMechE. Search
by keyword and receive a summary of expertise and
contact details.

Information on the market trends, market size,
key companies, segmentation and future forecasts
of over 30 different industries in 40 different
countries.

You can search for reports by Country, Industry
or Advanced Search. The reports included in your
account will be underlined and open immediately
when you click on their titles.
