Title: Unknown Object Portrayal

1
Unknown Object Portrayal
CSMWG16-5.2F
  • Version 0.01

2
Statements
  • We assume that the current presentation library
deals with the portrayal of approved object
classes within the S-57 ENC product specification
edition 2.0 (which is based on S-57 E3.1).
  • The subject is how the current presentation
library MUST portray new objects , new attributes
or new attribute values introduced by S-57 3.1.1
    enhancements.

3
New Object Class
  • Portrayal of a non-approved ENC PS object class
MUST be displayed as an unknown object (Question
    Marks symbolisation)
  • The current presentation assumes this requirement
    (8.3.3.7a of PL manual )
  • if an ECDIS doesnt respect this statement , it
    is an ERROR.

4
Example New Object Class
  • Symbolised boundaries option used here to show
these three unknown features (from 3.1.1)
  • One area feature (ARCSLN ) symbolised by
quesmrk line style for the area and the
    quesmrk centred symbol.
  • One line feature (ASLXLN line) is symbolised by
    quesmrk line style.

5
New Attribute or new Attribute value
It is my problem I would like to be sure that
it is what it is expected ???
  • A valid object class containing an invalid
attribute or an invalid attribute value MUST be
portrayed as any other complete valid feature
according to S-52 PL look up table rules.
  • The current presentation library assumes this
requirement (see 8.3.3.7b of PL manual )
  • if an ECDIS doesnt respect this statement , it
    is an ERROR.
  • The end user selects the INFORM and or TXTDSC
attribute using cursor picking action to
    determine what this feature is.

6
New Attribute or new Attribute value
  • Symbolised boundaries option used to portray this
restricted area with an unknown value for CATREA
    (28) as any other valid restricted area.
  • Symbolised by this line style et a centred symbol
  • No portrayal indication is given to detect that
    this attribute is not valid.

7
PROPOSAL
  • If we agree with this current way to portray not
    valid object for ENC purpose
  • IEC statement 6.5.1c Must be replaced by
something like Load an ENC containing an
object class not valid for ENC purpose, i-e an
object, not recognised by the presentation
library Check that the symbol magenta ? occurs
    at the indicated position....

8
Second option
  • A feature with a valid object class but encoded
with an invalid attribute or an invalid attribute
value MUST be portrayed as an unknown object
    (Question Marks symbolisation)
  • The current presentation library doesnt assume
this requirement (we will have to change it)

9
Second option for New Attribute or new Attribute
value
  • Symbolised boundaries option used to portray this
restricted area with an unknown value for CATREA
    (28) as an UNKNOWN OBJECT
  • symbolised by quesmrk line style and the
    quesmrk centred symbol.

10
SECOND OPTION
  • Consequences
  • IEC statement 6.5.1c Must be replaced by
something like Load an ENC containing an
object not valid for ENC purpose, i-e an object ,
attribute or attribute value not recognised by
the ENC product specification Edition 2.0 Check
that the symbol magenta ? occurs at the
    indicated position ....
  • Update Presentation Library Display Generator
    as following
  • Get the object from the SENC .
  • Is the object valid for ENC purpose ?
  • If yes , Go ahead with the current mechanism
    (...).
  • If no ,
  • is it a prohibited object (RIVERS-...) ?
  • if YES, reject (ignore),
  • If NO, It is really a no valid object gt add
directly display instructions to portray the
object as an unknown object without taking
account about portrayal rules from LU tables

11
Unknown Object Cursor Picking
  • Version 0.01

12
New Statements
  • Unknown Object Class
  • Cursor Picking Result should identify the unknown
object as an unknown object class for ENC
    purpose
  • All valid attributes and attribute values for ENC
purpose should be available for the mariners.
  • Valid Object Class but Unknown attribute
  • Cursor Picking Result should identify this
unknown attribute as an unknown attribute for
    ENC purpose
  • All other valid attributes and attribute values
for ENC purpose should be available for the
mariners. INFORM and or TXTDSC should explain
    information in unknown attribute.
  • Valid Object Class, valid attribute but Unknown
    attribute value
  • Cursor Picking Result should identify this
unknown attribute value as an unknown attribute
    value for ENC purpose
  • All others valid attributes and attribute values
for ENC purpose should be available for the
mariners. INFORM and or TXTDSC should explain
    information in unknown attribute value.
