His life and techniques

• Henri Julien Félix Rousseau was born in Laval, in
  North Western France on May 21st, 1844.
• His employment confers the nickname of Le
  Douanier
• He became famous in 1886 when he exhibited some
  of his works at the Salon des Indépendants in
  Paris.
• The public did not appreciate the way he painted.

• Because of his very basic training, his works
  lacked a sense of perspective.
• Henri Rousseau distributed the colour in a
  uniform way, which resulted in insulating even
  more the objects from each other. Each shape is
  seen separately, usually full face and the
  outlines are very clear.
• Henri Rousseau found his aspiration in the
  botanical garden of Paris and in a book entitled
  Wild animals.

• He got married twice (Clémence Boitard) in 1869.
  They had four children. He became a widower in
  1888.
• He remarried in 1898 with Joséphine Noury, who
  died in 1903.
• He wrote two plays.
• He was a good friend of Guillaume Apollinaire, a
  French writer and of the Cubist Spanish painter,
  Pablo Picasso.
• He died of gangrene in Paris on September 2nd,
  1910.
